2015 Toyota Tacoma V6 4X2 Factory tow package.

Does anyone have photos of their setup-Tacoma and 17B. Any issues, comment?

This is the direction I am going. I have the truck and am ready for the 178.

Do you use weight distribution on the combo?

Do you have a topper?

Have you added any suspension enhancements? I will be adding manual air bags.

For what it is worth, I'm towing a 17B with a 2016 Tacoma Off Road 4X4 (with the new 3.5L engine). I towed about 1500 miles with a WDH, and am currently towing without it (6000 miles). I don't feel the WDH is necessary, and a standard hitch is easier & faster for connecting & dropping the trailer. Towing mileage is around 13 MPG.

I did add Sumo Springs to the rear & have been pleased with them.

I have a ARE topper, which works, but had a small leak in heavy rain or in a car wash.

Thank You. Sumo spring are an option. Weight distribution is probably overkill for the 17B trailer. I have twenty plus years with tandem axle Stick and Tin, but V8's. The whole V6 single axle FGRV thing is new to me, but is very promising. It seems most toppers leak? Do you ever use Tacomaworld it is a great resource.

For what its worth...

2014 Tacoma with topper, pulling our '21.
Yes, I use the WD hitch and it makes a noticeable difference for the better.
(I occasionally drive short distances with a standard hitch. Bouncy...)
Perhaps not necessary with the '17B. No extra suspension enhancements.

Thank you. Love the view! I could have lots of things done in Chilliwack. I will not be in any hurry when I drive up. I want to spend my early springs, summers, and early fall in Canada.

I am going back to a WDH for my new 21. While it may not be necessary, with the additional tongue weight & 4' of trailer, I decided it made sense.

Here is a picture of our Tacoma DCLB 4X4 TRD Sport pulling our 19, not a 17' but pulls nice. No Anti Sway or Weight Distribution Hitch. No air bags. Has towing package.

07 17b

Here's my 2008 SR5 Tacoma 4.0 and my 2007 Escape 17b. The truck tows great. I have been considering a WD hitch as I have used one in the past. I only mention wanting one as it is a little bouncy when I'm all loaded up. When I had my Fleetwood Redwood 14' box tent trailer, I couldn't tell it was behind me and it was heavier at 3300lbs.

I tow a 17b with a 2015 2WD V6 and love it. Never towed before. Taco came with tow package. I bought a 4k E Equalizer hitch and had Escape install it. All I know is there is little to no bounce and can meet a semi on two lane with no fear.

I use a Tacoma to tow my 17b. If your truck has the power at the tail gate option you can charge your trailer batteries. It's not the most economical method or recharging but it's a lot quieter than a lot of generators!!

I towed a Uhaul trailer this weekend and that answered all my questions about my Tacoma. It is a great little truck when properly paired.

I just checked Toyota's website for a Tacoma and an Escape 19, unless you get the TRO $45K package which is 640/6400 lbs, all the rest are 3500# ratings? Seems like they are limiting their market.....

Actually, the 6400 lbs rating is associated with the 3.5L V6, which is available in all the models.

Well, my 2008 RAV4 Sport has 269-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 and a tow rating of 3,500 lbs., so the engine isn't the only spec to consider.

No, but this correction of Jim's confusion about the TRD package was specifically about the Tacoma, and this that truck's case the engine and towing package are the main relevant specs:

... and in that context, the engine is a required feature to determine GCWR (and as a result towing capacity); any Tacoma with that engine is available with the towing package, which provides everything else needed in a Tacoma for the highest towing rating.

Actual towing rating also varies somewhat with the cab and other packages, because they change the weight of the truck. For a 2016 Tacoma with V6, 2WD, and towing package, the towing rating is 6600 to 6800 pounds.

Here is my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport towing our 2013 Escape '19. It tows nice. I did add Sumo springs that work well. The trailer came with an Anderson WD hitch. But I'm thinking of not using it because it is such a pain to hook up and the trailer tows fine when I tried it "loose" without tightening the chains. Need to experiment some more.

One thing nice about the Sport is that the suspension is "road tuned" for better highway handling. I love my truck!
