I guess I should care about drag-racing F-150's, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why it matters. Maybe if I was a teenager again....

I agree, as we probably won't be taking out our trucks for drag races. I just found it interesting how close they actually were.

Drive an EcoBoost for awhile and if you're not careful, it'll feel like a drag race. Mine is the smaller 2.7L but it can git up 'n go.

At high RPM the torque and horsepower are similar, where the Ecoboost shines is all the torque it creates without having to rev the pi** out of the engine.

The ecoboost will also out perform at higher altitudes where the turbo can force feed the thin air. Great for pulling you trailer over the top.

I just read the whole title. "EgoBoost". Because it is fun to step on the accelerator and feel the power?

A truck/engine comparison that might be more meaningful, at least perhaps to some members of this forum, would be something mimicking a challenging entrance onto an interstate. For example, with a 4,000 lb trailer in tow, and from a dead stop like at a stop sign, accelerate up an 8% incline, and time how long it takes you to get up to 70 mph interstate speed. There is an interstate on-ramp like that nearby that has a very short merge lane at the top, so if traffic is heavy, you better be going 70 mph when you hit the top, or someone will be slamming brakes and honking horns.

You're right Dale. More of a real test. I don't know if you've looked at tfltruck.com and their tests on the Ike Gauntlet, but they are actual towing tests with comparably equipped trucks and standardized trailer loads. In the half ton category, let's just say the F150 is pretty dominant.

That must be a detuned Coyote as my GT has more torque and horsepower than the 5.0 truck specs. and very easily to add more if wanted.

While driving through Death Valley a couple years ago I noticed the speedometer on my truck (5.3L V8 Ecotec3, 355 horsepower) had numbers on it up to 140 miles per hour. Since there was no traffic and perfect weather that day in Death Valley it seemed a good time to test and see just how fast this truck would go. I had great confidence in the vehicles' absolute driving stability at any speed. Ego boosted, I then put the petal to the metal.

To my great disappointment and feelings of betrayal by General Motors, the truck absolutely refused to go any faster than 100 miles per hour.

Don’t you love the programmed speed limiters in vehicles today. One can purchase a chip programmer to bypass this issue BUT BE WARNED it will void any and all warranties on the vehicle it is used on

These tow videos are great...they always have a problem with the ecoboost wanting to go faster...if you can call that a problem going up hill.

Yes, a nice problem to have. By the way, the one pictured in the video link above is almost identical externally to the one I'm picking up in March when my current lease is up - right down to the color, the chrome package, and the towing mirrors. This snip is from the build sheet.

I want them to include the transmission temperature at the end of those climbs also. That would be a very good metric to see. I know I sometimes have to back down to keep things from getting too hot.

yes towing my new 5.0 over the mountains I had to remind my friend who was driving to slow down to 65 she kept creeping up because she could barely feel the trailer behind her. She has towed a lot but mostly with much bigger trucks and large heavy horse trailers. This combination 2.7 plus 5.0 really tows well.

Not “detuned”, rather tuned to perform in the vehicle it’s in and do the job it’s intended to do. Your GT motor would not perform nearly as well in pickup hauling 11000 lbs+.
