5.0TA Pin Box Adjustment

Hey 5.0TA owners I have a question. My trailer tows slightly nose high and I have to raise the front several inches when hitching. Do I need to raise the pin box or is this normal? Thanks jn

The pin box on our 5.0 was installed to low from ETI, so the camper sat nose high. I raised the pin box to the upper holes (lowering the camper - think about it) and raised the ball on the Andersen hitch. I can't remember the numbers, but raising the pin box lowered the front 4" and then raising the ball 3" gave us a net drop of 1", enough so now our camper rides perfectly level.

Enjoy,

Perry

Thanks Perry Sounds like you had what I have. How heavy is the pin box? I'm just a frail old man

Is your hitch already at the lowest height setting? That would be a much easier adjustment than the pin box.

David I had one set of bolt holes I could raise the pin box and I just finished the job. I haven't connected to the truck yet. Probably do that tomorrow. Then I'll find out if my efforts were wasted. The ball on the Andersen was as low as it would go.

Perry I just finished the pin box move and I'll check it tomorrow.

SO....getting ready for first trip and Just hitched up to my new to me Escape 5.0 TA to RAM 2500/2020 using an Andersen Ultimate. Adjusted pin box to the top setting(bolts holes open on the bottom.
My concern is I can see that my turning radius will be limited because the pin box sits inside my truck bed. Humm...any soloutions...different hitch...one more adjusting on gooseneck hitch on andersen

Just remeasured things...answered my own question..looks like I will have 3 inches to spare inside box..I was not measuring from center.

Good deal! So what position is the pin on the Andersen when you are level? I raised my pin box on the trailer to the upper holes and have my Andersen pin in the lowest position. With this configuration my trailer rides level. (I have a 2017 Tundra)

The nice thing about this set up is if I am going off paved roads into BLM land with uneven ruts and the like, it is really simple to drop the landing gear enough to raise the trailer off the hitch. Then I reposition the Andersen pin to the highest position and hitch it back up. This gives me an extra couple of inches of clearance at the tailgate for crossing shallow creeks, etc.

Hi: jnfrombigt... We had to change(Let out) the pin box on our '07 5.0 when we traded trucks. We had to change(Raise) the pin box on out 5.0TA when trading trucks. The hitch plate has been at many levels too. Good thing they're adjustable, but heavy!!! Alf

One other consideration.

Put airbags in your truck. We have Firestone airbags set to 20 pounds. I am a little nose down. I could go down to 10 pounds and probably be spot on.

Tundras have a tendency to sag (form a v), or so I have been told. So I put these on and everything is good. I also have the gooseneck set to the lowest setting. Love it!
