Unless they just starting adding it, the Tundra will not have ACC until 2018.

The 2018 facelift includes other trim levels in the Tundra lineup, including new grilles for the Limited and 1794 models. The other big news is the availability of Toyota’s Total Safety Sense-P (TSS-P) as standard equipment on all 2018 Tundras. TSS-P includes a host of latest driver aids: Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Auto High Beams (AHB) and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). These safety systems are optional on competitor trucks, so this is indeed a big deal for the Tundra.

I'd prefer them to be optional.

Confused, perhaps I misunderstood my friend. Interesting thread regardless as we are considering a move to a 2012 Colorado Canyon to dip our toe into the truck world and will definitely want to use the cruse control while towing.

My Tacoma has regular cruise control, not ACC. Its manual says to not use the cruise control while towing, but it didn't say why. My guess was that Toyota assumes drivers will have a decreased reaction time while using cruise control, which is not good for towing.

I use it though, on rural interstates; otherwise my right leg would cramp up and I wouldn't be able to drive long distances. I disable it when approaching a steep hill so as to avoid unnecessary downshifting.

Mike I suspect that Toyota wants it disabled for exactly that reason. I've used ours on flat straight highways (think Interstate thru Nebraska or Kansas), but shut it off as soon as I get to any hilly area, or even when in shifting headwinds. The CC tries too hard to keep the speed precise and will do a lot of up and downshifting to keep it precise. I just keep my eye on the tach and listen for excessive gear hunting.

I don't use cruise control on my RAV4, towing or not.
I find it more relaxing to just drive and not have to monitor and override CC.
Have used it briefly to relieve a leg cramp.

Well, there are no flat, uncurvy roads in BC are there?

The Inland Island Highway is about as close as it gets. Gov't built a four lane highway and there's next to no traffic on it. I've tried it there. I think you have to get used to it.
