The ball is 2", as far as the frame brackets, the frame is 4" box, but the drop is what determines your bracket number. Mine were too low and I stopped at the factory in Idaho on the way to the rally in Osoyoos, they replaced mine free with the correct size. What I'm saying is do not get the universal bracket, but the one made for your trailer. You need to ask Andersen what brackets are available.

sorry, i'm sort of lost... are you saying based on this:
http://www.andersenhitches.com/uploa...ide%202015.pdf
because from ground to top of frame is less than 18", I cannot use the universal?
Thanks!

I would get the 4 3/8" bracket, it will fit your frame exactly, which is what you want.

Also, talk to Anderson about shank length. The standard one is too short for most to either lower a tailgate on a truck or open hatch on an SUV without it hitting the jack.

WD 8" Drop/Rise adjustable shank will be better. If you change TV which has a hitch receiver height greater than 5", you can adjust the hitch height to suit your new TV.

LJY,
As I follow this thread and click on each Amazon link, I see where it says it "will fit your 2003 Odyssey".
What is your intended tow vehicle?
Towing an Escape 21 with a 2003 Odyssey would be a concern. Maybe you have something else in mind but shopped with the Odyssey still in your search. We used to have a 2002 Odyssey with a tow rating of 3500 pounds.
The advice our helpful members give would be more specific if you shared the year, make, and model of your tow vehicle.

That looks like the stock shank, or the "shorty shank". It is 11" from pin to center of ball and what most need is 13-14, which is what the Pro Series RB2 is.

This thread leads me to ask about the current status of Andersen hitches.
We were visiting friends in Washington who have a newish Lance trailer. They shared with us that after raising their trailer for more clearance they found it unstable towed behind their 2016 Ford F150. They did some research, decided on an Andersen hitch and were delighted with the improvement. They were surprised to hear that we also had this hitch on our Escape 21. I mentioned how ETI at one time installed this hitch on about 80% of their trailers (according to Dennis), but shortly after we got ours there were issues with the friction collar material. That was about 2 years ago. I would be surprised if Andersen hadn’t responded to this problem with some changes. Has anyone else on this forum recent experience with the Andersen hitch? Our Escape/Andersen towing experience is so much better than that with our former trailer with Reese hitch. If Andersen have fixed the problem I would certainly recommend this to other Escape owners.

Tonny, good call about 8" shank.. but I'll probably never get that high of vehicle.. Pilot is as high as my wife would want.
Rossue, the short shank issue is just my lift gate not opening? If so, I think I can deal with it until I get a longer one? I need something for orientation and Osoyoos this month
Bobbito, I guess I can be a new guinea pig if no other info. I just really think it's an ingenious device.

There were other problems; we were wearing through the chain guides as they didn't align properly. I certainly understand people wanting them for smaller tow vehicles as the weight is much less than other WDH's. Personally I much prefer the Pro Series I switched to, especially for ease of hitching up...takes 1/2 the time.

I'm glad the Pro Series worked out for you. I'm not sure how it compares to the heavy and noisy Reese hitch we had in the past. I will keep an eye on our Andersen's chain though. Thanks for the heads up.

I've been checking both the collar and the chain guides on our Andersen periodically since it was installed new by Reace in March of 2015.
Zero problems so far. Love the hitch.
