Okay, I understand about wanting both tires to lift at the same rate, etc. BUT what do you do when one axle is in a hole and the other axle is high? I camp in cow pastures and there's nothing flat or level about those areas.

Donna, you may want to reconsider camping in cow pastures with your new Escape, I would not consider that with mine.

So, exactly how much did you cut off the levelers

At first, I planned on cutting only one, but looking at it I decided to cut both. I wanted both tires to start at the same point on it's leveler and rise at the same rate. I didn't want to start the lift, stop part way up to place the short leveler between the tires, then finish the lift. I also thought it would be easier when coming off the levelers if they were both working in unison. I purchased the levelers to simplify the leveling process and hopefully I've done that. I may be wrong in this thinking, but that's how I did it.

I just went out and checked these on mine, they will fit between the 21' wheels as well as the 19' wheels without cutting, they work the same as the Andersen units

Okay, don't want to trash the OPs thread, but I still need to know. How do you use these if one axle is in a hole and the other axle is high? I don't always camp where the asphalt or concrete or gravel is flat... (change cow pasture to field)
Surely there are folks that boondock and will run into this condition?

OK Donna, you got me there. Every situation is different, and camping with cows I think definitely qualifies. Just another piece of that puzzle!!
But for consistency, as long as Escape doesn't change their axle locations, and Anderson doesn't re-design their levelers, using their levelers on the 21 will require some modification.

I think that situation calls for a couple 2" X 12" planks.
Friend used to carry them on occasions where the road in to the lake needed "leveling".

Donna, how about moving the trailer so neither tire is in a hole.

I carry a small shovel for that reason, to try and eliminate holes/low spots where I want my tires.

I would likely still take a set of blocks if I bought these levelers, as like you the ground I camp on is not all that level, plus I have had times where one side of the trailer would need more lift that the Andersen levelers would provide.
Still, I think they would work great most of the time.

We purchased two of the Anderson leveling systems and brought them with us to pick up our trailer. Reace told us that we would probably have to cut them because he had heard they don't fit on the 19', so .... we're using the chocks that came with the Escape starter kit. Naturally, we stopped tonight and couldn't remember the proper way to chock the wheel. Immediately to our rescue came our neighbor with instructions on chocking, stabilizing, etc., etc. Love it! (Just hope he's right ... )

Would there be any other way to cut these down? I sold my table saw, they just scare me to death! I have a compound miter saw and a band saw, but I would think the band saw might melt the plastic more than cut it. Any ideas?

Vicky,
The bandsaw should do just fine. A sharp wood cutting blade should work. If you have adjustable speed you could slow it down to keep the blade cool. A dull blade will produce more heat. A table saw would scare anyone to death for that job!

I am very interested in doing this too. Does anyone know if the 19 shares the same distance between the axles as the 21'.
|
Does anyone have an answer to Jim's earlier question regarding c-c axle spacing on the 21' and 19'?

They look the same in photos, but I don't have direct profile shots handy to objectively compare. Since it's not in the specs, owner measurements seem to be the way to go...
