Found this interesting looking jack, you back up over and it raises your axle.....

Those have come up before. They are for beam axles, which means they would only apply to the 5.0TA pre-2017, and they're questionable even for those axles.

"Dexter recommends that you do not jack up the trailer on the suspension components because there is always the potential for damage. Bent hangers, leaf springs, or axle tubes can cause bad axle alignment with bad tire wear resulting. Also, many trailer builders do not use Dexter hangers and we have no idea how strong these hangers may or may not be. Therefore, we take the conservative approach and recommend jacking up only on the trailer frame."

I have been looking at the Trailer Aid Plus Tandem Tire Changing Ramp

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Looks like a good way to adjust brakes as well as change a flat tire safely.

What does Escape recommend on the 17 and 15 footers? Is it like Dexter says only jack up on the trailer frame? Thanks.

I don't know of any official recommendation. You could ask.

From a discussion a few years ago, which was resumed last year:

I believe it is not recommended to jack on the axle because some jacks have a small head on them that may bend the tube, which houses the inner torsion arm.

You can jack on frame on either side of the axle, depending on how high your jack is. There is also the axle plate that is 1/4" plate steel that protrudes on the back side of the axle if your jack will work on it.

Been a while ! Just ordered an electric jack for my 17'er.
Question: Can I tie into the emergence brakes on the trailer for my power to jack?
If not, do you have a solution?
Had a great trip to Glacier and Yellowstone last Sept. Great trailer!
Thank you , Craig

I assume that you are asking if you can supply the jack power from the wire used to supply power to the breakaway switch, and I believe that the answer when that was discussed was that the breakaway switch circuit wiring is not large enough to handle the high current (up to 25 amps) needed by the jack.

Alternatives include
  • get power at the termination box for the cable to the tow vehicle
  • wire a plug on the end of the jack power cable to plug directly into the tow vehicle (only works if the tow vehicle is there)
  • wire a socket on the end of the jack power cable to connect to the trailer's cable which is normally plugged into the tow vehicle
  • run a wire under or through the trailer to the fuse panel

Works great for dual axles. If you have an asphault drive, put something under it. The bolts on the bottom will mess up the pavement. Definitely go with the plus for a little extra height.

Looking for power to run electric jack!

There should be a picture of the juction box here!
How do I post pictures!

The yellow wire is connected to the centre pin of the connector to the tow vehicle, which is the auxiliary circuit... meaning used for whatever you want. It isn't used in stock Escape wiring, and probably isn't connected in the tow vehicle. Most people don't use it for anything. The most popular uses among those who do are
  1. for backup lights, and
  2. for stop lamps (brake lights) separate from the turn signals.

Note: This wire is yellow in the Bargman standard for the RV-type 7-pin connector (the one with 6 blade-shaped pins around the outside); Escape follows this standard. Some websites show a different colour (usually purple) for this pin, because they are applying a different colour code which was not the original standard for this type of connector; they may also list it as specifically backup (or reverse) lights, but there is no standard making that assignment.

Thanks Brian,
Think I'll call Reese tomorrow just to make sure I'm doing it right! Just hope it's simple!
You know how that goes!

I plan to buy this when we get our 2017 21' Escape, unless someone convinces me otherwise.
