In one of the more bizarre car modifications we have seen, Japanese conversion outfit Campinn has developed this unique and somewhat odd looking camper add-on for the standard Prius.

Campinn’s modified addition gives the current Prius a robust makeover of sorts, adding space for a convertible sofa-bed and overhead sleeping area. The camper addition is made of fiber-reinforced plastic and features a skylight as well as a back door for easy loading and unloading.

I saw this Prius camper on the web at the Tokyo Auto Show.

My 06 Tacoma went from 11.1L per 100k empty to 14.3L per 100k with a 17b.
The last trip 1,160 k cost $220.68 CDN. It's hard to pass a gas station with out looking at the gas gage and pondering if you should gass up or not.

Unconfuse me.

You get better mileage when towing than when empty?

OOps my mistake. should be 14.3/100k vers 11.1/100k.
Sorry about that.
And it's a 4L V6 auto @236 Hp Average speed is 90kms/h at 2,300 rpm in 4th gear. I do not use over drive.

Re: Any vehicles getting 20 mpg (18 mpg US?) while towing?

I just tracked mileage for the 5,000 mile trip back from picking up our 5.0. Pulling with a Chevy Colorado, 2WD, ext cab, I-5 engine, rated for 5,500 lbs. On the way out we averaged about 21.5 mpg, except where we bought Canadian gas and had to convert to gallons. Mileage went up tp 24.8 . Alf, I think this is where your 19.5 towing mileage comes from.

In California where it's posted for 55mph for all trailers and I kept it there, I averaged 17.5 mpg. From Southern California to Farmington NM where I was keeping it at 60 mph, averaged 17.2 mpg. From Albuquerque to home where I kept it at 65mph, avg was 16.8 mpg. Not too bad I think. Back roads and 55mph looks pretty good.

Re: Any vehicles getting 20 mpg (18 mpg US?) while towing?

Hi: JC... Glad to hear you made a safe trip out& back. Yes my Canadian mpg is about 19.5 and my U.S. mpg 16.5. I seem to get much worse with E85.
Our trip to Ky.& Tenn. the mileage was in the 13.5- 14.5 range,4th gear through the hills and mountains(Much smaller than the Rockies tho). Just when we got back to flatter ground and I might have used OD. the Wind howeled and whistled so bad it blew one of my 4X4 cedar jack blocks with a piece of plank screwed on, out of the truck bed and the trailer just hopped over it. I stopped on the side of I75 to secure the rest of the load and a Ohio St. Trooper stopped to make sure we were all right. His weather report was for stronger winds further north and on the 401 in Ontario we had brownouts and drifting dirt on the highway. The 5.0 tracked like a trooper through it all!!!
What are your impressions of the 5.0 and Escape? I know Reace& Tammy would treat you well.
How did the trailer tag finally turn out? Alf

Congratulations on your new 5.0 and on making it 5000 miles with no mishaps.
Glad to see that slower is better as I am slow!

Re: Any vehicles getting 20 mpg (18 mpg US?) while towing?

We just got a 2012 Ford F150 Ecoboost yesterday. I hooked up 'Ping today and towed it a few miles up our main street (major highway). Lots of power in the V6, but the in-dash fuel computer indicated 14-15 mpg (Imp). As the truck has less than 300 miles on it, I'm hoping the numbers improve after a suitable breakin period.

We are towing her to Sacramento and then up the Oregon coast in early July. I'll let you know how thirsting the truck is.

Re: Any vehicles getting 20 mpg (18 mpg US?) while towing?

Didn't see much discussion of tow speed vs mileage in this thread so far. I've just towed my new 19 with a Ford Escape 4wd V6 from Whistler to Southern Ontario.

I'm averaging 20 imperial / 17 us towing at 55 mph / 90 kph for the trip. Headwind/Tailwind also makes a noticeable difference along with altitude. I had the trailer built without the high lift option to get a little less windage and have a big Thule ski box on the roof of the TV to break up the airflow ahead of the trailer. The combination has worked well.

Of course I'm discounting the Rogers/Kicking horse pass results which were much worse :-('but thankfully just for one tankful :-).

I tow with a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 regular cab, 6 cylinder, 8 speed automatic 4x4 with a towing capacity of 6300 lbs. and average 17mpg.
