My battery shut off switch only cuts off the interior battery under the bed (in a sealed box). The exterior battery, on the bumper, is shut off by disconnecting the terminals.

I believe the switch is standard, both of mine had it and it was not an option. The 19' had a battery in the box and the 21' with battery inside.

Was yours a used model, normally dual sixers are on the rear on the 17.

If the batteries are in series, one switch will cut off both... so are these in parallel?

Maybe Jim has the key here: an original equipment dual battery setup would have two 6-volt batteries in series, both mounted on the bumper in the case of the 17... unless this was a custom exception. The interior battery could have been added in parallel as a modification.

Regardless of why the batteries are configured this way, it does illustrate the idea of providing a switch for an inside-mounted battery but not for an outside-mounted battery.

I bought 2 year old, used model off Escape's lot in 2010. It had a single 12 volt battery and we added an additional 12 volt battery, 1500w inverter and a roof top 85w solar panel
