brake controller

I have a question which may have been covered elsewhere but I can't find it...…...where is the best place (all opinions welcome) to hook up the safety brake controller? Mine is still connected to the hook for the safety chain and I don't think that is the best location. I am stumped.

where you hook your chains should be where you attach the safety wire that activates your brakes in case of dislodging of the trailer.

I agree with CPA (Jim).

The goal is to have the brake activate if the trailer becomes disconnected, your hitch fails, or whatever.

If the brake activation cable is attached to the chain, or if the brake activation cable is longer than the chains, it probably won’t activate, and you’ll get no trailer brakes from this emergency device.

Make sure it is attached to your tow vehicle and is slightly shorter than the chains. That way it’ll try to lock up the trailer brakes in an emergency, assuming their adjusted adequately.

The breakaway cable must be attached to a permanent location on the tow vehicle, such as the loops on the receiver that the safety chains hook to. Hooking to the safety chains or their hooks is a No.
