Brakes Not Releasing on a 19

Thought maybe I was imagining it, or that the extra weight I wasn't used from the Casita to the Escape was making me think it, but our brakes, which we had inspected and adjusted seemed to be dragging away from a stop. Then once I would get going they seemed to release.

Took it in to our favorite trailer work shop today, and they verified I was not imagining it.

They called later and said the actuators are sticking, and they are replacing the back plates and actuators at abt $32.00 ea plus 1/2 hour labor.

Anyone else had this problem?

Had this problem on a 2010 trailer with Dexter brakes. Remember reading in the forum that Dexter had a batch of bad brakes from that year. A search might discover that thread but as I recall we were not alone.

I know that Reace supplied me with new magnets to replace, as there were some faulty ones in '09. They did not lock, just squealed a bit.

They charged me $32.00 per backing plate which includes new everything but the drums, and 1/2 hour to install all four. That seems reasonable to me.

I am amazed at how light the trailer is when you tow it without the brakes partially applied. I thought it was much heavier than the Casita.

Check to see if the wife is not putting her foot on the brake in order to slow you down too.

Hehe, I'm not usually in that big of a hurry.

Put a nice wash on it today after picking it up, tomorrow a coat of wax.
