Which do you want: a P275/60R20 (e.g. , or an LT tire of the same size (e.g. ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO2)? or maybe a 275/60R20 (not P or LT)?

I do understand that the point is to match what you have, but "P" and "LT" tires are not the same, and there are also different load ranges... worth checking before searching.

I meant a p tire for a light truck, LT was incorrect, sorry for the confusion.

Checked the spare on my 2015 1500 Tradesman with tow package. My spare is the same as what installed on the truck (17").

I am going to have to check. All my past Superduty trucks had a full spare, and when I took mine out to install the gooseneck hitch it appeared to be a regular tire.

Toyota solved the spare tire choice problem with my 2010 RAV4 Sport - run flat tires & no spare (or any place to hang one). Strangely enough, they included a jack?

The run flat tires were worthless on snow, wore out in about 18,000 miles, hard riding, and cost $350.00 each. I switched to standard tires & added a roof rack for the spare.

No spare tire is a disturbing trend. Coworker sliced the sidewall on a curb with his Ford Focus Hybrid and found a can of sealant in the trunk. Had to sit at work until it could be towed to a service center that luckily had a suitable tire. What if this was after hours with nothing open? What a joke.

Maybe it could be swapped to the front . ?

Well hopefully the front is going the speed as the rear.

Our 2002 Highlander came factory with not only a full-sized spare tire, it was mounted on the same fancy alloy rim as the four tires on the ground. If you put the spare on, the only thing you would notice is it's shinier than the other 3 thanks to its inside storage compartment. As near as I can tell, those days of a full-size spare mounted on a matching alloy rim are long gone. I'm sure some of this spare tire issue has to do with reducing weight to improve fuel mileage to meet federal regulations, but our 15-year-old 2002 model (170K miles and still going strong) gets just as good gas mileage as the window stickers say the new 2017's get. So much for, "New & Improved!"

My 2011 FJ came from the factory with 5 matching wheels and tires. Of course, the FJ is no longer being sold in North America, so maybe you are right.

Spare tire

Our 2012 came with the same tire and wheel as what is on the Highlander also. By then they were stored underneath. I check the inflation before most long trips, it's always right there. Once a year in the spring I let It down and wash it up just to make sure I can get at it if I have to. However in 165,000 miles I've never needed it. The original Toyo A 20's are long worn out and I'm now running Michelin Defenders. When I'm on the road and going Through a town I usually note the brands sold on the signs on the side of the tire store building and for years have taken solace in running popular brands. Goodyear, Goodrich, and Michelin.all have served me well for the last 500,000 miles or so. The Toyota came with the Toyos , had no problem but I did not see them as widely represented.

I just went and checked my spare. It is a full sized Goodyear Wrangler Fortitude HT tire.

In the manual Ford describes 3 possible spares, T-type mini-spare which is for temporary use only, Full-size dissimilar sapre with label on wheel which is for temporary use only and has limitations (similar to what others mentioned having), and a full-size dissimilar spare without label on the wheel which is what I have and has only minor limitations but nothing that really limits its use. It is all described starting on page 350 of the manual.

I wonder if getting a tow package automatically upgrades to the better option?

Our 2012 4Runner has 5 almost matching 20" wheels and tires. The spare is full size with no speed or towing warning labels but the wheel is finished in a beautiful yellow and doesn't have a TPMS sensor.

I am going to ditch the silly stock 20's for some 17's when these tires wear out. I can only find 2 different tires that will fit properly on the stock rims. Both choices are expensive and have poor ratings. The tires that were on when we purchased the vehicle used have about 25,000 km wear and are near end of life!

Hi: All... My ISPO's marginal 1/2 ton 4X4 Nissan Frontier came std. /w a full sized spare aluminium road wheel and matching tire to those on the pavement. It also had an external trans cooler and 4 leaf springs. It is IMHO a real truck... not just a pretty face!!! Alf

I know that Jeep provides 5 full sized tires and wheels and assumed a truck with a towing package would also, my mistake. Now to find a 20x9 wheel and spend money for a tire that hopefully I will never need.
One of the reasons I went with the RAM 1500 Outdoorsman package (no longer offered) was that it had a real spare tire - all LT tires on 17" rims. All of the Big Horns I looked at had 20" rims and a limited use spare.

My wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee on the other hand really ticked me off. We purchased the off road option and a full size spare option - we got essentially highway grade tires (had to be replaced because they were useless in snow and ice) and the "full size" spare was just that - it was a full size limited duty spare. I was a bit steamed when I went to change a flat and discovered this bait and switch by Jeep (one would think a full size spare - at extra cost - would be a full size full duty tire). I was more careful when purchasing my RAM after that lesson.

That could potentially be a life threatening situation to have a flat and nothing but a can o' fix-a-flat given certain weather conditions. I'd be really peeved to find that out. Very glad you posted the CR review.

I'm not having much luck today, other than the hurricane seems to be heading more west than north up to here. I got a price from Dodge for wheel and tire-$715 to match the truck, trade in for spare-0-. I'm still waiting for the manager to call me back. Then I thought, why not buy 4 new tires and mount one of the old ones (28,000 miles) on a steel wheel. Well there is no such animal, they do not make such. Nothing in 4 junkyards I went to, truck is too new. Called 3 tire places, no steel wheels.

I have had luck with Craigslist. I bought 4 stock 17" Toyota wheels for my 4Runner for $350 that I used for snow tires last year. It turned out to be cheaper than buying steel wheels for $500. There always seem to be lots of folks selling stock wheels after upgrading, lifting, etc. Sometimes they upgrade all 5 so they have a single wheel leftover.
