Current Top Picks for 5.0TA Tow Vehicle

I'm going shopping this weekend for a Tow Vehicle for my incubating 5.0TA. Plan to look at low mileage preowned stock from 1-3 years old. Anyone want to weigh in on what their favorite TV is for the 5.0TA?
Any experienced owners out there with advice on what to avoid?

Ford F150 Ecoboost (either size engine), 6.5' bed. As comfortable an interior as you can find and afford. 4 door of some sort.

GMC's are very comfortable.

8' bed makes for a big truck, harder to park and turn. Just my opinion, but the short 5 1/2 beds are too small, at least if you want to use it as a truck.

If it's a daily driver, and someone has to go to work in it every day, 4x4 is nice here in the snow.

All I can say is our F-150 SuperCrew, 6.5' bed, with a 3.5l EcoBoost engine tows just great. I have towed much bigger trailers with no problem too. The 2.7l EB would be just fine, but you can't get it with the bed and cab I waned, it is either a SuperCab, or a 6.5' bed, not both like with the 3.5l.

I just put a deposit on a 2016 GMC Canyon 4x4 diesel crew cab long bed.

I expect to like it, but can't say for sure yet.

We love our GMC Sierra 1500 with the 6.2 and 8 speed transmission. It sure hauls the 5.0TA effortlessly. Crew cab has loads of room, 6 1/2 foot box.

Actually, I am looking forward to see what engines and payloads are like in the new Ranger. A small but capable diesel would sure be skookum.

Donna, was your solar panel installed in that location at the factory? I think it's the first picture I've seen that doesn't have the panel near the rear of the trailer.

Although you have a couple years to wait for the Ranger (likely 2019 model year) and its payload ratings - and perhaps longer for the diesel version - you can see the specs of the likely engine now. The largest diesel engine in the Ranger worldwide - and thus the only one likely for North America - has been available here in the Transit for a few years as the Power Stroke 3.2L (although it is called the 3.2L TDCi Duratorq internationally).

3.2L Inline-5 Diesel
185 hp @ 3000 RPM
350 lb.-ft. @ 1500 - 2500 RPM

GCWR in the Transit with this engine is up to 6,123 kg (13,500 pounds).

I know when the new model first came out in Europe and Australia they offered 2 diesels, a 2.2 and the 3.2, as well as one gas option. Those specs sound good for towing capacities, payload I guess will be determined later. I had heard some time ago that they were shooting for 2018, but who knows for certain.

Just reading an Australian brochure on the 2017 Ranger, and it states a towing capacity of up to 3,500kg, and a payload capacity up to 1,500kg. Not too bad.

The long box on the two door model is just under 6', but on the four door is only 5'.

Sarah, it's a 2014 Ford F-150 w/ecoboost 4x4 Supercab (3.5L v6engine, 7200# GVWR package, XLT plus package). I average 15-18 towing and 20-22 non-towing. Compared to my 2000 Ford F-150 (w/Triton V-8), THIS truck makes me so happy.

have the payload specs for the canyon increased in the 2016 , I could be wrong but I thought it was some where around 1420 lb. The pin weight on a 5.0TA loaded could reach ~900 lb. + ~115 pounds for under bed goose + ~45 lb Anderson hitch = ~1060 lb + ~ 350 lb two people = 1410 lb. that will leave 10 lb. of payload. There could also be warranty and liability issues. If you are aware of these concerns please disregard this post my intent is not to get into your business only concern.
