I think our next tow vehicle may well be an Audi Q7 3.0 (so the gas version, with the more powerful gas version of the gas engine)

i assume you like your fairly similar Q7?

I read many good things about it.

We picked our new 21' yesterday and towed from Chilliwack to Osoyoos today with our 2016 Highlander. We could maintain speed limit speeds at will on the pass ascents and engine braking worked well on descents. The new model WDH Dennis at ETI installed for us helped provide a smooth comfortable ride, with the tow and trailer feeling like one unit even in some very high gusting winds.

What are you pulling your 21' with?
We are looking at either truck or suv.

Thank you for your helpful information. Was wondering if you use a weight distribution hitch and anti-sway bar?

In summary-you are saying you don't have to worry about overloading the trailer with "stuff"? And that the smaller V8 is sufficient-we looked at Tundras yesterday like yours.

Thanks! Bobby

I own and tow with a Ram 1500 with the 5.7 liter Hemi V8.
That being said , I would recommend a Ford F150 for towing an Escape 21. Good payload , towing capacity , fuel mileage and passenger comfort . Vehicles with only a 5000 lb towing and 500 lb tongue weight capacity is cutting it a little to close for my comfort.

I have a Tundra with the smaller 4.6 V-8 also and pull our 21. I have been more than happy with our truck so far, and it pull the 21 fine. I get around 14 MPG towing and had no trouble coming over the passes in the Cascades or the Rockys last year on our return trip form Chilliwack. I also had a Tacoma before the Tundra. Pulled a high wall Chalet that topped out around 3000 lbs. I would not want to pull anything heavier with my Tacoma, but that's just my comfort level. I know that some people do and they are happy, I just prefer a little more dog on the tail. Anyways I like the increased room and comfort.

I'm pretty biased, I admit. But to my mind the perfect tow vehicle for a 21 right now (or a 19 or a 5.0TA for that matter) is my F150 with an Ecoboost V6. Tow a little with one and you'll see what I mean.

In total agreement. 2.7EB is hard to beat. Good mileage, good power, good comfort. No cons; all pros.

Well maybe a couple cons - it's pricey, and it's a bit bigger. Not cons to me, but...

OK, I agree on the "pricey" point; however, it seems like a toy compared to the SuperDuty with 8' bed I had prior. I can park this one in a standard parking spot.

Now that we are all in agreement that the Ford F150 EB is the best all around tow vehicle on the market does this mean no more threads titled " Anyone towing a 21 with a 1973 VW Beatle"
One can only hope and pray !!

I have the crew cab, not quite as big a back seat, so I removed 2/3. Lion loves it.

Interesting in the Ram lineup the crew cab is the bigger of the 4 door trucks, the quad cab is a foot smaller but has the larger bed.

Our 75 lb Chocolate Lab likes riding in the back seat of our Ram 1500 quad cab but only if I open a wIndow so he can sniff the air.
As Jim pointed out the Quad Cab has the longer bed which was a more desirable feature for us . As it is I can barely get the tailgate shut.

I was lucky and found a 2004 f150 with 37000 miles on it with a Triton v8 and tow package for 12000
Not a hint of corrosion
Not as good gas mileage as a new eco boost but 25000 buys a lot of gas.

I may be wrong, but research that model year and spark plug issues.
