Thanks! My stock mirror is 10". That means I'll lose 7" clearance... That's getting pretty close to "no room for error"... I'll have to consider whether I want to do this or not.

(And thanks for the PM on the installation tips, too!)

Keep in mind that these towing mirrors fold back as do the stock mirrors. I would think that by folding-back the driver's side mirror when entering a garage and then putting it back into position when driving would take care if your issue. A little bit of a nuisance, but worth it to park in a garage (my wife's car resides in our garage while my truck is relegated to the great outdoors).

Agreed that parking in the garage is worth the nuisance of folding the mirrors. But I can already park in the garage. The question is whether or not reducing the vibration and nuisance of add-on mirror extenders is worth the nuisance of folding the mirrors.

I think the compromise of just folding the driver's mirror (which can presumably be reached by just opening the window without getting out) is brilliant.

Oh, there's no doubt of that... But I don't think anybody who owns an Escape is suffering too badly...

I think Alf and I both failed to sufficiently praise the remarkably improved rear visibility these mirrors provide. Note in one of Alf's photos that both sides have two different mirrors; the larger one is essentially a stock mirror but the smaller (actually, it's not that small) convex one on the bottom offers quite a a panoramic view. I drove today with the mirrors both fully extended and was amazed at what I could see. I found them particularly useful when backing out of a crowded parking lot. The lifespan of those pedestrians was just improved considerably!

Hey Alf, have you folded-back your new mirrors yet? I tried to fold mine (like yours) and met enough resistance to make me wonder. Just wanted to confirm with you before I rip them off the door.

Hi: Zardoz... I too believe there's an oriental mity mite in the mirror housing, hanging on for all he's worth, but I did manage to fold in a mirror without breaking it!!! 7yrs. bad luck if you do!!! You need to be careful of the extension covers on the door base as they seem quite tight... but hey they's new yet. Alf

Hi Alf my mirrors were very stiff at first and I wondered if they would fold in. I sucked up the courage to go for it and its gotten easier the more I do it. I don't believe it should be to easy or that would cause major problems.

Thanks for telling us all about 1as' web sight.

Ps. our 5.0, the last of the line, will be ready in a few weeks.

Hi: Not so Big Al... You're welcome...Did my first back in in the dark with the new mirrors. Didn't realize just how blind I've been. Don't have to power the mirrors down to see the trailer tires, and had both right/left porch lights on to guide the way back in the rain.
Congrats on the last of the 5.0 line. They're GREAT!!!Alf

having seen an earlier posting of this, I started looking at these mirrors and found a company in Australia selling them also, and they have an great video on their website about how to remove the door panels. Which put my mind at ease, I ordered them and my 11 year old granddaughter and I spent about an hour installing them.

Yes, they are reversed, the drivers side went on the passenger side and the passenger side went on the drivers side, but at least they weren't upside down.
