Escape 19' Weights

Not to steal Paul's opportunity to have your trailer weighted at Bandon I have some numbers on an Escape 19's weight. Now any time you see trailer weights you have to take them with some interpretation as we all travel differently and pack different things. At the same time I bet that overall weights do not vary more that 200 lbs + or - from everone else.

The Escape 19 is listed with a dry weight of 2,610 lbs, I do not know if that is accurate or not and it is really an irrelevant number as you never tow at that weight. I used a local truck scale for weight, the cost was $9 and with some effort I could have split the trailer from the tow vehicle and gotten the weight of the TV, hitch and axles. As it was, I weighed the hitch at home using a scale and only needed the axle weight.

There are three of us travelling in the Escape so there may have been a bit more in clothing, food etc but probably not significant. I did not have any water in the fresh water tank, that would add 160 lbs.

Hitch weight for me was 390 lbs and total of axle and hitch was 3,370 lbs. Hope this gives another benchmark for what weight you may be towing. Looking forward to the results from Paul at the Bandon Rally.

Re: Escape 19' Weights

Thanks for the info, fudge. That sounds close to what I was guessing at. I did weight my tongue a couple times one day while moving loads around until I got it around 350 lbs. I roughly calculated that loaded with water I would be 3,500 plus, and your findings verify this. I really should get it weighed proper some day to satisfy my curiosity, but I doubt it would be a lot different than yours.

Alf, I am guessing it might be a bit heavier, what with all the muscle that wagging might have built up.

Re: Escape 19' Weights

Thanks for sharing the scale results -can't have too many "real world" data points.

I haven't weighed our 17B loaded for a trip yet, but I did stop by the scales on my way home from picking it up in Reno.
It had a full HW tank, ~1/3 full fresh and minimal camping gear for a fast trip to Reno & back for just me.

The axle weighed 2260# & the total was 2580# when I dropped the tongue jack.

BTW - I was looking at the Oregon Gathering map the other night (too much time on my hands :) and it seems there are 20 Escapes signed up:
1 - 13'
1 - 15'
7 - 17'
11 - 19'!!!
(although I know that at least one of those is really a 5.0, so the whole range is represented)

Re: Escape 19' Weights

Well, the map says Ian and Paddy and Reace and Tammy are bringing 19 footers. I haven't heard Ian and Tammy traded in their 5.0... so I'm assuming that's what they're bringing and I thought for sure so were Reace and Tammy
