F150
Has anyone else had a 5th wheel hitch mounted in a 150 short (5.5') bed?
I know the company Reace and Tammy use will do it, but I am having the trailer delivered here.
Just wondered what kind of issues you may have run into.
Thanks
Vicki

Not a 150 but a Frontier crew cab short bed (5'). Check out this thread for discussion and photos:

Reace should be able to give you all the info you need, measurements, etc. His F-150 is a short box and he posted those pictures of the 5er attached and turned 90 degrees.

All of the places I went to, WILL NOT do the fabrication necessary...So I opted for a slider hitch. More $$$ yes, but not as much as a new pickup!

I have a 2013 S-Crew with a 5.5 bed and use a Reese slider hitch. I have not had any problems. A friend with a 2012 S-Crew and 5.5 bed with a fixed Curt hitch also has had excellent results.
I think you.will be happy with the short bed.

No one here will install a fixed hitch...so poo on them!
Yes, I love my truck, and I certainly don't need one longer...I'd never get a parking spot!

Sure you would, if you have room for a wide turn the long bed truck fits in the same spots yours will. It's the turning radius that's the problem. I've got to do a "K" turn just to park

I'm not sure I get that. The width of the truck doesn't change with box length (so the long-box truck doesn't need a wider spot), but the length of a parking spot is often limited, and for the same cab a longer-box truck will be... longer. What am I missing?

I think they mean you need a wider lane for approaching the parking spot because you have to swing wider to turn into the parking spot with a longer vehicle that has a larger turning radius. The parking spot is not the problem, it is turning into it...

They are thinking of a 'normal' sized fifth wheel not the Escape or Scamp.....most hitch shops have never seen one of the fiberglass 5ers... You should have brought them a picture!
Our hitch shop had seen our previous Scamp 5er and were very helpful in installing the B&W Patriot hitch for our Escape.

I agree that the hitch shop may be keeping their client from getting a hitch installed too close to the cab to clear the expected width of the trailer, and the Escape is narrower. Other small fifth-wheels have been just as narrow as an Escape, but they were uncommon.
Escape is creeping up on those big trailers, though...
2.00 m / 80" - original Escape 5.0
2.24 m / 88" - current Escape 5.0 TA
2.44 m / 96" - traditional full-sized RV
2.60 m / 102" - maximum legal RV (now common "widebody")

I note that Vicki doesn't say what keeps her from getting a longer truck into a parking spot.

This is a reasonable guess, and maybe Vicki's only concern.

Then this could mean that the turning concern can be worked around, and that once turned the truck length doesn't matter.
Aside from the fact that the ability to turn in the available space does matter, I just noted that in some cases the length actually is a problem.
