Don't forget resale value of the diesel version. Two weeks ago, I finally parted with our 1999 F-250 with the 7.3L turbo-diesel and got right at 50% of what I purchased it new for 20 years ago. Pretty good return on investment...

a bunch of branded cosmetic stuff. Only actual 'performance' upgrade is Fox shocks, KO2 tires.... hoookay. for only $14000 above the already too expensive base truck ?

you could spend a fraction of that on performance upgrades to the 6.7 Powerstroke, and STILL have more than enough left over for fancy suspension.

That reminds me. the only real mod I did to mine was a set of Bilstein 5100 shocks. They made the truck feel planted without being harsh.

Check the Ford F250 Cab Height before you buy a camper

Before we purchased our 19' Escape we had a F250 Crew Cab turbo diesel and a Northern Lite pick up camper. The diesel F250 was an awesome hill climber and tow machine. It got pretty decent highway mileage too.

One thing to check out on the new F250: measure the height of the cab back wall from the pick up bed to top of the truck. Compare that to the same dimension on the pick up camper. F250 Super Duty, our 2006 model anyway, required a 3" platform (I made a pink foam and plywood sandwich) under the camper to raise it enough to clear the top of the Ford cab (camper bed goes out toward front of truck). The 3" sandwich was a moderate inconvenience and added to the sway of the camper when driving. Just something to investigate when considering brands.

don't use foam for that, use wood or something rigid, and you'll get less sway.

The nice thing about Hallmark is that they seem very on top of how each truck is a different size.... and making sure the camper will fit properly.

or so it seems.

cheers

Pretty sure your no where near 1/2 the cost of a new one.

Yeah, my first new Super Duty Lariat with the Power Stroke was a 2002 (had used ones before that), and the same truck configured the same is about 60% more now.

I have an older F250, a 2002 superduty diesel longbed. My biggest complaint is the turning circle is truly awful, like 62 feet curb to curb. this can make maneuvering a trailer in tight quarters really painful. the 7.3 diesel gets typically 15 MPG towing an escape 21, with a full load of gear in the truck. the 38 gallon diesel tank means I can go all day on a single fillup.

The current F350 the *radius* is 23.8 to 29.8′

so on the longest 350 (what we would get) would be almost 60' curb to curb. Ug.

the good news is we would not be towing, in terms of this.

our current tug, while not towing (MDX) is a radius of almost 19'. Quite different. Much shorter vehicle of course.

Interesting, although it would not affect the Ford SuperDuty line (F-250, F-350, etc). The intent is clearly for each of the partners to fill in what the other is missing, so for instance VW would be the car line for North America (since Ford is abandoning that), as well as collaborating in areas that both are weak. VW has nothing to contribute to the market in which the SuperDuty sells, and I doubt that putting VW emblems on these trucks would benefit anyone.

There is a mention in the article of the next generation of Ranger and Amarok (the VW pickup, not sold here); that reinforces the common idea that since the Ranger which has just been introduced in North America is already "mature", a replacement is due soon.
