If your truck catches fire, you could change your user name to “Embers451”!

Are engine block heaters standard equipment on vehicles sold in cold climates?
For that matter, are vehicles sold in high altitude areas, e.g. Colorado, Utah, etc., equipped with engines that are tuned differently than those sold to us down here in the swamp? This question refers back to the 2019 Ford Ranger thread, but one post beats two.

When I bought our F-150 I asked about the heaters on all th Fords on the lot. I was told Ford installs them on all vehicles destined for some line in Illinois northward.

Yes they are, at least it is an option almost always added. No dealer brings in vehicles for the lot without them. Years ago it was almost a requirement to get a vehicle to start in real cold weather. Nowadays most start even in real cold weather, but a block heater takes a lot of the cold starting strain off the engines. Plus, warm up of the vehicle is way faster which is nice to get going quicker.

Hi: MikeS... Would that be the "Mason-Dixon" line? I have one on my Ram EcoDiesel. The truck warms up almost as fast as the heated steering wheel. Alf

When I lived in Hibbing / Chisholm Mn the vehicles had engine block heaters , an oil pan heater , a upper radiator hose heater and a electric battery warmer . If it got really cold we put a pan of charcoal under the engine and then start the vehicle up every 2 to 4 hours to warm the engine up.
If you wanted heat inside the cab you put cardboard in front of the radiator and insulated the heater hoses . On a good day after driving the 20 miles to work it got above freezing in the cab but your feet never got warm
Still better than hot and humid !!

From what I’ve been told Ford trucks (Gas or diesel ) sold in N Dakota , S Dakota , Minnesota , Wisconsin , Michigan , Montana and Wyoming all come standard with a engine block heater .
When I built my cabin , I ran 2- 20 amp circuits controlled by switches in the house to our parking area . We plug our vehicles in all winter and when we need to go somewhere we flip the switch and let the engine warm up for a while .
My Ram did not come with a factory engine heater , which kind of pi_ _ ed me off .
Again Ford has a better idea

They might have been decades ago (in the carburetor era), but I'm sure they're not any more, since modern engine management doesn't have an issue accommodating to elevation change. On the other hand, there can be differences (or just limited model or engine choices) to suit extra regulatory requirements for emissions in some jurisdictions (e.g. California).

I do remember driving my 1969 Camaro SS Convertible (350 cu in engine with a 4 barrel carburetor) to Morarch Pass (11,300') on US 50. Couldn't believe I had my foot to the floor & only doing 40 MPH. It was a pretty hot vehicle at sea level!
