My 2008 RAV4 V6 Sport gets 15mpg towing my 17B to the interior of BC and back. In town, without the trailer, I generally get 15mpg ( I think most is idling at stop lights ).
Vehicle does the towing job, but you're not going to get great mileage as daily driver.

That's really interesting. The 2008 RAV4 Sport V6 has an mpg rating of 19 city and 27 highway.

Don't believe it.
I might get over 20mpg without the trailer and driving the pretty much flat highway #1 between Vancouver and Chilliwack. After that it's all up and down with grades up to 8 per cent to the interior.
I raised the issue with the Toyota Service manager and all he did was change the air filter ( bill me a significant amount for that ), which changed nothing.
They put the vehicle on the computer and it's "read 'em and weep". Everything is up to spec.
All vehicles have improved gas mileage since 2008 though.

Yeah, but in the case of the RAV4, at the loss of a wonderful V6 engine.

My 2010 RAV4 Sport with the V6 also gets 15 towing (although so far on my trip to Alaska I'm closer to 14.6). Highway without the trailer is between 25 & 27MPG, and around town around 22MPG (all US gallons).
