They were projected to be here between March 18th and March 21st.

The dealer called me just a while ago to let me know that one of them arrived. I pick it up tomorrow, just in time for our Sunday departure. THRILLED. No rental truck.
Yeah!!!
Have a safe trip in your new pick up

Thank you all SO MUCH for the well wishes. I just got the truck home from the dealer -- about a 95 mile drive. I can't even begin to describe what an awesome ride. Smooth, quiet and if you aren't careful you look down and you're doing 75. Wow!

Traffic coming home on I-35 and 1604 was absolutely horrific with nothing but stop-and-go almost the entire way. I didn't even care! With the auto-stop/auto-start feature engaged, I'll bet the engine shut off over 500 times on the way home. I averaged 24 mpg or so on the stretches where I could do 65, and a little less in the stop and go traffic.

I'm going to need a month just to figure out what everything does. So many bells and whistles. Anyway, thanks again ya'll. Off to Canada on Sunday. Cheers.

wow, I did not know that the engine turned off/on like some of the hybrids do. I wonder how they can accomplish that with a turbo that sometimes needs cooling down?

There is a fan that runs when the auto-shutoff is engaged and the turbo is hot. You can barely hear it running if you roll the windows down and turn off the radio.

So, I take you can turn disengage "auto-shutoff" if needed, as in towing?

I don't know why it would be necessary to turn off this feature (which Ford calls "Auto-Start-Stop") when towing, but them seem to agree it's a good idea. The owners manual lists 19 conditions which must be met for the automatic engine stop to occur, and two of them are
"The trailer is not connected." and
"You have not selected Tow haul."
So if either the trailer is plugged into the truck (perhaps only with the factory integrated brake controller) or the Tow haul mode is selected, the Auto-Start-Stop is disabled. There is also a button on the console that disables it for one engine operation cycle.

Is your F-150 truck a 4x4? Great mileage for a crew cab beast like that; great truck!!!

Wow! What fun!!! New truck from Texas to Chilliwack and new trailer to eventually back. Congratulations to both of you. Can hardly wait for your stories and reports. You must be feeling pretty good ..... the wait was worth it.

That is why... It is not possible to configure the F-150 in 4x4 with Crew Cab and the 2.7 Ecoboost engine. You would have to go to the larger Ecoboost engine, or not do the Crew Cab. I am toying myself getting a F-150 down the road.

Bet you could get it if you we're willing to pay the price to have it built. I was not, I needed ALL the Ford manufacturer incentives (and dealer incentives) to purchase the 2014 Ford F-150 w/ecoboost that I bought (must be already dealer delivered). Now if I was to win the lottery, all bets are off!

When I bought my truck (just before Ford changed to the 2015 models), I spent hours at a Ford dealership. They called up every Ford dealership in the USA looking for exactly what I wanted. No joy. Sometimes you need to compromise. I did, I'm glad. YMMV

Not so. The truck that the salesman ordered for himself was a Crew Cab 4X4 with the 2.7L Ecoboost. Here is the window sticker. There is no mechanical reason preventing the 2.7L from being installed in a 4X4 truck. Plenty of power. The only difference is that the mpg suffers a bit due to the extra weight and the transfer case.

Buying a tow is a lot like other stuff in your life, throw enough money at it and you can get exactly what you want. Lots of us are willing to compromise. That's why I don't have A/C on Ten Foward!

You have to throw more money at it than you planned regardless. To get this, you have to get that, to get this one item you have to get this package, you have that package so you can't get this package, and on and on. It took my GM salesman till noon the next day as the computer kept rejecting things that should have gone through. As for the sticker prices on today's trucks, Grandpa would flip in his grave. Loren

The dealer got an 3.55 ratio axle with his 4wd. Roberts has 3.31, at least the original sticker showed that. I wonder how much that counts in the mpg.

Differential Gear Ratio determines the number of times the drive shaft (or pinion) will rotate for each turn of the wheels (or ring gear). So if you have a 3.73:1 gear ratio the drive shaft turns 3.73 times for every turn of the wheel.

Gear ratio is calculated by dividing the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. The higher the number, the lower the ratio: a 5.29 gear has a lower ratio than a 4.10 gear. With a lower gear ratio the drive shaft (and thus the engine) turns more for each revolution of the wheel, delivering more power and torque to the wheel for any given speed. Lower ratios are generally desirable when going off-road. Higher ratios are better for freeway driving since they run at lower RPM’s and offer better fuel economy.

Changing tire size affects the final drive ratio. Switching from a 30" tire to a 35" tire changes the final drive ratio by about 17%. This may drop the engine out of its' "power band" and result in poor performance and fuel economy. To restore performance you must change the gear ratio to compensate for the change in tire size. If you originally had 3.07 gears you need a ratio that is approximately 17% lower, such as 3.55. If you want to increase off road performance you might want a 4.10 or lower ratio.

The 3.55 would be best for trailer hauling with a little larger tire than stock .

Configuring vehicles - especially trucks - can certainly be a challenge. Certain combinations are indeed not possible (whatever you are willing to pay), either because there is something unworkable about it mechanically, or because it would have unacceptable characteristics in some way, or simply because the manufacturer wants to avoid excessive complexity in their production and there is another (typically more expensive) combination which will work adequately for the customer.

I think some of the frustration I have heard from some truck buyers results more from inability to find the right combination, than from a deficiency in the design of the vehicle.

If you have big downgrades figure out the manual down shifting, the Tow/Haul would not do it on it's own quite enough, at least for the heavier 5.0TA.

Have a great time
