Larger Rims?

I have a 2008 17b with 14" rims and a standard axle. I will be replacing the tires and was wondering if anyone has replaced 14" rims with 15" rims? Current rims are looking a little rough.

Hi Buddy - I replaced our 14" on our 2010 with 15' rims and tires and they have plenty of clearance. I asked Reace first and he said that is was not a problem with ours. I think the new 17's come with 15. I'm not sure if the axles are mounted the same between 2008 and 2010 though. Anyone know?

The current spec for the 17' is ST205/75R15... so yes, 15" wheels.

While I am not sure, either, I have never heard of a change in axle mounting (other than the availability of the high-lift kit) on any model of Escape, in any year (keeping in mind that the 5.0 and the 5.0TA are not the same model).

I don't know if there has been any change in Torflex trailing arm start angle, which changes ride height and thus tire clearance.

While we are on the subject, does anyone have experience with putting 15" wheels on a 19'? If so, how do they fit, and what size tire are you running? I do not have the high lift axle that I believe is standard on the newer 19'. And, does anyone know if the Bal-X wheel chalk will still fit between the tires mounted on the larger rims?

I had forgotten that the 19' ever came with less than 15" wheels... always interesting to learn new things and to refresh the memory. They certainly have 15" now - that ST205/75R15 size again - and since I haven't heard of the wheel wells being enlarged (although I think they were re-shaped from a single-arch to double-arch design - don't know if that enlarged them), my guess is that the 15" size will fit any vintage of 19'.

Now for those with actual experience...

That's right, the 15's will fit. And, they did change the wheel well design to a double arch, instead of the oblong wheel well with a trim piece that makes it look like a double arch on the older 19's. Little details like this get better and better every year.
