For those curious, this is where they moved it to. My receiver had a flat side next to the muffler so they attached it to the side.

Very tidy
... as long as it isn't too hot right beside the muffler for the wiring. It's probably okay.

My first and only experience with the "U" was when they installed a new but defective component (their brand) then couldn't figure out that their new component was the problem. So I went to a local trailer sales/repair shop recommended by some friends, and they quickly identified the defective component, replaced it with another brand, and the problems was solved. The latter company continues to get my business.

there are a LOT of flaky trailer and rv repair businesses. its hard around here to find someone to do a decent brake job even.

True, but UHaul has it's entire reputation built on trailers and towing, yet is dragging a whole train of botched jobs behind them.
The average customer would think the kid writing up the order would at least have heard of "righty, tighty; lefty, loosey".

U haul in my opinion from hands on experience should not be in the trailer hitch/brake controller business. One of the worst experiences I've ever had as far as doing business with a company. Ended up getting all of the money I gave them refunded to me but the hassle factor and extra trip factor of a 13 hour wasted trip to pick up our Escape because the brake control system they installed would not work. NEVER again would I even rent a truck from them, just did not like how they handled things at all.

Enjoy the journey.

UHaul filled a need, to provide rental trucks and trailers for hauling, the hitch business was a sideline. Long before Penske and UPS and FedEx, there was UHaul for shipping and carrying.

U-Haul, Camping World, the local corner grocery store, etc., etc. We can find bad service and business everywhere. But we must be careful to not put the tar brush to all of them at all locations. I have a terrific Camping World nearby. Nice people, great service and they've always been helpful. However, it's not the place I'd take my trailer for fiberglass repair.... brakes and bearing service, yes.

The same way with the U-Haul location I patronize. I've been going to the same one for nearly 25 years and I think 75% of the people are still working there as when I first started going there. I would trust them to do the job that I need. So while others may poo-poo both businesses, I've been fortunate and will continue to use both for my needs here in Portland.

On my Subaru Outback I mounted the 7 wire connector to the apron above the hitch.

This is not a difficult job, but it can be time consuming. Difficulty will depend on what you have to remove under the car to access the back of the apron. First, determine if there is room enough to mount the connector with no interference. If there is room, measure the OD of the socket and cut a hole in the apron to match. Then place the unwired connector in the hole and using that as a template mark and drill the necessary mounting holes. Mount the connector using the existing bolts and nuts. Reconnect the wiring.

Given the space I had to work in, holding the nuts in place until they were threaded was the most challenging part.

The installation looks factory. That is a factory hitch by the way.

I have a 2018 Kia Sorento SX and a Curt 7-way installed and it is even with the 2" hitch receiver. I have bent the 7 way receptical doing some very difficult 4 wheeling without my Escape 19 attached, but otherwise, works fine.
