My 17B tongue weight

Just got home, and, without unloading, I weighed the tongue at the jack and again at the ball receptor.

I got 360 lbs. at the jack and 340 lbs. at the ball receptor. From now on I'll just weigh the trailer at the jack ( using the Sherline scale ) and if I get 350 lbs. I'll be good to go.

Interesting that the 17' has about the same tongue weight as my 19', I guess the tandem does take some weight off.

I have to say that it usually is about 320 lbs.
My main objective was to compare measuring at the jack and at the ball coupler so I could just measure at the jack from now on.
I had nothing in the black and grey tanks and 2/3 in the fresh water. Had generator inside at the front along with a couple gallons in a water container. BBQ and tank were over the axle and three fairly heavy chairs on the bed. I've removed a lot of heavy stuff from the box on the rear bumper.

Is it the load of fish on ice you had up front that made up the difference this time?

Surely it wasn't left over beer? We already learned on that lesson today.

As we consumed the food, the beer ration in the fridge did increase. Came home with a dozen and a half in the fridge. Had a dozen in the bar fridge at home.
Yes Dear. I'll get right on that.

The number of axles does not change the tongue weight; however, a lower tongue weight may be found acceptable with the stability added by tandem axles (whose tire fight each other if you try to turn the trailer, in sway or deliberately), so the designer might choose a lower tongue weight knowing that the trailer will be a tandem. Reace chose tandem for the 19' relatively early in the design process.

The tongue weight of a 19' would be the same if the tandem axles were replaced with a single axle placed midway between the tandem axle locations... assuming, of course, that we are comparing to a tandem which is properly level (each axle thus taking exactly the same share of the load).

On the street. And I checked the trailer level. But, I do wonder if I screwed up the Sherline scale when I replaced the gauge. I'm gonna check it against another when I can.

I guess you were not aware of the new refrigerator guidelines for your Escape, which recommend not coming home until all of the beer is consumed.

I don't know how you could affect the scale - it has the same piston cross-sectional area of one square inch, so the pressure in PSI will still be the load in pounds. Do you suspect that the gauge is bad?

I should probably get rid of all the measuring instruments I have for the trailer, the scale, the voltmeter, seven-pin tester, four-pin tester and systems monitor. If I did, I probably wouldn't have any problems, that I'm aware of.

As for the scale, I replaced the 2,000 # gauge with a 1,000# gauge, but couldn't get it screwed in so that the gauge face points up. It's sideways so you have to bend down to read it. So, I'm relieved that there is probably nothing wrong with it.
