We have had our great Escape 19 for 8 years and pulled it all over the west and even to Fairbanks, Alaska and back. It has the twin 6 volts on the front frame with no front storage box. Tanks full or not, the tandem axles has a huge stabilizing effect. So, there was little to no change in towing performance including sway. I have it on good authority, that if the front frame with the batteries and the propane tanks was not there, the fully loaded trailer is perfectly balanced on the twin axles.

On our 2010 19, shortly after we got it I had everything out of the front box including the battery and the propane tanks off as I was doing a little project on the box and getting both tanks topped off later that day. I stood over the couple and pulled up. I could just lift the jack post clear of the driveway but not quite put it on the ball. Point being I belive you are correct in your point on balance. As a younger lad, I believe I could have handled that coupler, so orrigina tongue weight with an empty trailer was pretty light without the battery tank and storage box. The 21now , and my aging back, not so much.
