I tend to stick to the right lane whether towing or not until we hit a city especially one not familiar with and exiting at some point or change to another highway and not sure whether the exit ahead will be left or right. Then the centre lane works best. You can usually keep up with traffic towing as Interstates through cities tend to be lower than the speed rurally, eg. in Sioux City SD I29 is 65 outside city it's 80.

yeah, I usually cruise in the 60-65 range in California, hovering around 62 or so, as my diesel is real happy there, and not very happy at 55.

I definitely noticed my fuel consumption went up when I was in Utah and Arizona, doing 70-ish on the 75 or 80 MPH interstates. The truck and trailer seemed perfectly happy at those speeds, other than said fuel consumption dropping to ~ 11.5-12MPG

We're like Jim and Bob (and others). In CA we usually drive around 60 and stay in the right lane ... unless the lane is heavily used by trucks and like a washboard or unless we're in heavy traffic where moving over for people entering the freeway would be a pain, if not downright dangerous.

As 'native' Californians, we used to laugh at people driving our roads that were from other states as they had evidently heard California drivers were aggressive and so drove accordingly, which kind of made them stand out. Not so true anymore -- there really are a lot more Californians that are 'driving-challenged' nowadays. (Edited to put up a better display: https://www.carinsurancecomparison.c...worst-drivers/)

Obviously you have never been to Atlanta reigning champions of the 90 degree 6 lane sweep from the hot lane to the off ramp @ 85 mph. in 5 sec.+/-.
