Sway with bike rack on a15A

We recently returned to Idaho with our new 15 foot escape and found that she (Molly) developed a serious amount of sway at around 65 MPH when the wind was gusting. She had two bikes on the rear and a full fresh water tank and was otherwise lightly loaded with dual propane tanks(full) and two 6 volt batteries in the front box with asorted items in the box. Bottom line is that with the fresh water tank located behind the axle and a bike rack with probably a total of 100 pounds there is not enough hitch wt on the hitch despite the front batteries and dual propane. We fixed the problem with an additional 70 lbs of blocks in the box, but new owners need to be aware that carrying bikes could be dangerous unless you check the hitch wt. and compensate. Maybe on the 15 and 17 footers Reace could find a way to switch the grey and fresh water tanks location with the thought that we would be more likely to travel with a full fresh than grey water load. We love our new trailer and welcome any suggestions. Bill and dori

While there is no issue with the Escape handling the weight of the bikes, one does have to watch that there is still adequate hitch weight. I encountered similar issues with my 19 and 2 bikes on the back. It was not too bad, but noticeably different than without the bikes.

What was your loaded weight and what was your tongue weight?
