television choices

Hello
i have a minor question , ETI says your tv should be 19 to 22 in,to fit the typical designated space in the 21, over drawer stack. Does anybody have ideas on weather you can fit a slightly larger one in there as it seems to be hard to find a 22in these days,,,it will be mounted on there swivel wall mount. Any info as to this, or a good make and model that works well would be great!

We put a 24 inch Samsung from Costco in our 2017 5.0 TA on the flexible arm provided by ETI. Seems to work well for us. It is great to have a bigger screen.

TV/DVD combo in a 5.0

We mounted a 24 inch RCA TV/DVD combo on the mount sold at Escape. They wouldn't install the mount because I didn't bring the TV with me, but its an easy 10 minute job. The 24 inch swings out for viewing from the dinette, or the bed with plenty of room. Not sure why they suggest a 22 inch as maximum.

I would suggest looking at electronic retailers rather than RV places for a TV. They are considerably less$$ and work just fine. Ours has a wall wart to convert to 12 volt, so we have the option of running on shore power or the battery.

Have you asked Escape about the outside dimensions? The nominal size of a TV is the diagonal screen dimension, and with the ever-shrinking size of the bezel (frame) surrounding the screen, a current "24 inch" unit may not be physically any larger than a "22 inch" of the year that Escape issued that recommendation.

Those 5.0 TA owners responding with their answer may not realize the 21 Escape tv location is over the nightstand and the space is limited.I put my larger tv in the rear dinette in my 21 and the smaller tv at the night stand location. If you want 2 tv locations you need to inform ETI.

I to am interested as to the maximum size that will work on a 21'. The smaller sizes are not readily available from the normal sources. Would current owners of 21' please let us future owners know what is working for you.

Two questions..... Does your TV seem large enough when viewing from the dinette area? We are considering getting an TV arm (holder) at the dinette area in addition to the standard location as per ETI.

Patrick.... do I understand that your TV can run on both 12v and 120v? What model is that and how does that work?

Need to make some Build List decisions!

All of my tv's have been 12v models, keeps it simple. If you do get 12v tell Escape to make your power 12v vs 120v for tv hook up. here is where truckers go 12 volt Truck Accessories at RoadTrucker.com

My Samsung 22" is 120V AC, but the external brick transforms it to around 12V DC. Because of this, I just nixed the AC brick and jury rigged it to work directly with 12V DC. Works fine. Sadly, Samsung no longer makes that TV.

I believe you could mount a 24" over the counter top. We installed a 22" and there is about 2" on each side. If you choose a 12v TV, have Escape drop a 12v line in the cabinet above the counter top.

I'm confused what is a brick? an inverter? I have a Samsung TV too and use an inverter if i want to use it with 12 volts.

Most tv as well as computers are DC powered and the "brick" is a converter. So if you get the inverter option you are using 12v converted to 120 which is converted back to 12v to power these items, a needless waste of energy. By getting 12v appliances and hookups for phones and computers you are utilizing your 12v efficiently.

The "brick" is the power transformer/supply that came with the TV - similar to the photo below. Many small appliances use an external power supply. So does a laptop. It's purpose is to transform 110/120V AC power to an appropriate DC voltage to be used by the device. My mod was to wire the round plug (the part that plugs in to the TV) directly to a 12V plug with a pigtail. So, instead of using the Samsung supplied brick, and using an AC plug, the TV now plugs in to a 12V socket directly. This only works if the input voltage the device uses is at or close to 12 volts. If the device requires less than 12 volts, don't do it. That would mean an overvoltage situation, which could damage the device or be a hazard. If the device requires a bit more than 12 volts, you're probably OK. It'll either power up or it won't. You also have to make sure to not reverse the polarity when wiring it. If unsure, the best bet is to just use the brick and an AC outlet. Of course, if you're boondocking, AC only works with an inverter, which is far less efficient.

Ours doesn't have the DVD player so I got the stereo system provided by ETI.

Storm force keep in mind that not all small tvs or for that matter larger ones have a built in tuner. With cable, satellite, or full service hookup it would not matter. If you plan on boon docking or camping in parks and want to receive over the air signals you will need a model with a tuner.

I've only one small correction to that. All "TVs" do have a tuner. That's the main difference between a TV and a Monitor. Older ones have an analog tuner, but newer ones have a digital tuner, which is necessary now that OTA signals are broadcast almost exclusively in a digital format.

A "Monitor" doesn't have a tuner - but that's never marketed or sold with the name "TV" or Television, and it's pretty easy to tell the difference.
