Tonneau cover for Nissan Frontier

I have purchased a Frontier crew cab long bed to tow the Escape 5.0. Is anyone using a tonneau cover that stores itself out of the way when towing? I am seeking something lockable and more secure than a vinyl cover.
Thanks

I am using an aluminum RollBak. It has worked very well and leaks only a little around the edges. I hope it works with the 5th wheel. I pick up in June.

Hi: jopoelma... First you will love the truck...I do!!! We got the Nissan tonneau and step rails as a no chg. option. With the tonneau lock down clamps on the underside and the locking tailgate I think it's about as secure as it gets. Sure someone can still slit the cover but the sectional aluminium frame will not allow much to pass thru the cover The Nissan tonneau also has the fold forward staps to secure it while under tow. I can't say more till I actually get hooked up when the trailer comes out of storage. Alf

Re: Tonneau cover for Nissan Frontier

Joe, I installed a Pace Edwards Roll Top on my Frontier long bed when I first bought it in 2002 and it's been working great ever since. I especially like how it works with my Fifth wheel setup ... I can close the cover as soon as I unhitch without having to remove the hitch itself and can throw everything in the back and lock it up. Everything stays dry (except for some drops around the seams), including the Honda generator. Whatever type you get though, check the clearances, as I have less than a half-inch clearance with my hitch receiver plate and the generator. Undoubtedly the best mod I made on the truck, even without trailering.

Re: Tonneau cover for Nissan Frontier

Thanks to everyone for the tonneau suggestions. I ended up with a lockable vinyl tri fold cover with a metal frame. At present it provides a moderate water tight and dust free interior and provides some security. The clearance is ok with the 5th wheel hitch.
Thanks to all the 5.0 owners for the information regarding hitch installation and turning clearance. I self installed it with minimum problems.
I purchased the 5.0 sight unseen with info from this forum. It is finished and ready for delivery or pickup at the factory. I hope to have it soon.

Hi: jopoelma...I can't think of anything more exciting than getting a 5.0. I'm always glad to see ours after a long winter of separation. This year will be extra special as I will have to adjust the pin box to suit the new Nissan pickup. I can't wait to get our new tug n trailer on the road... this summer!!!

Welcome to the 5.0 club Joe! That will be two of us fairly close together until Capt Math gets his, then there will be three. You will love it. We just took 2 grandsons fishing on Lake Hartwell (Georgia) last weekend, and had a blast! May see you sometime when we're on the Blue Ridge.

Re: Tonneau cover for Nissan Frontier

I think our paths crossed about 2:00 pm last Sunday. You were northbound at mile marker 70 on I-77 and I was Southbound. If so I caught my first ever glimpse of a real Escape 5.0. Told my wife Pat that it was the "Hokie Escape". She said...well I won't say exactly what she said but something about "nuts". My Escape is a plain Jane standard version with extra insulation and glass completed a while back and still being "torture tested" with Chilliwack snow and ice. Hopefully we will have it soon. Cataloochee campground in the Smokies will host the commissioning event for "Smokie Escape". I have a small Green Egg smoker ready to travel with Smokie Escape. If there already is a "Smokie Escape" you forum guys need to speak up and I will revise the title. This probably needs to go to general discussion. Jeff Z or GB advise as required. Thanks again for the comments. This is a nice forum.

Re: Tonneau cover for Nissan Frontier

check out the Extang Solid Fold tonneau. Comes off and on with no tools, waterproof, light weight, good looking about 7 or 8 hundred bucks.
