Don, you might want to check out Steve's experience with WD and a Pilot:
Honda Pilot hitch receiver problem (post #22 in What to tow a 19' with?)

Brian,

Oh! Wow! Thanks so much for the heads up. Now you know what I'll be doing tomorrow morning on my driveway, under the Pilot.

Is this a Murphyism, that I bought the Pilot a week ago, and just heard of this issue; from a post I never read before, that has been on the forum since before I joined.

He was towing a 19 with a high tongue weight which included 4 batteries in the front storage box not a 17.

Yes, but the issue Steve (hotfishtacos) encountered was with the effect of a WDH on the hitch receiver, so while the amount of WD force is highly relevant, the trailer attached to it is not (you can crank up a WDH even on a trailer with zero tongue weight if you want). I mentioned this experience because Don mentioned using a WDH with a Pilot (yes, to tow a 17A).

Since the Pilot/WDH issue is not unique to the 17-foot, perhaps it can be pursued in other discussion threads... now that Pilot owners towing 17As and 17Bs are aware of it.

So . . . I was telling my TV tales of woe to my son today. He offered to sell me his 2009 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid 6.1 liter v8 - up to 6000# towing capacity. 74,000 miles. And at below blue book price. Please tell me my problem is solved.

If your problem was towing capacity, then I agree. Problem solved.

Sold my 94 Ford Explorer to my daughter and two weeks later it blew a head gasket.
I did sell it to her for nothing, however, so she got a good deal.
She got $800 for the remains.

It's good to note that the capacity is "up to" 6000 pounds, since it's never as simple as one number, but the Tahoe is a a capable vehicle and an Escape 17' is a lot less than 6000 pounds. To check out the details, I suggest the owner's manual and the hybrid-specific information in the Two-Mode Hybrid owner's manual.

Wow! What a wonderful solution. An extremely capable vehicle, and without a big gas mileage penalty.
