Towing 5.0TA with Ram 3.0-Liter V6 EcoDiesel Engine

Is anyone towing a 5.0TA with a Ram 1500 3.0-Liter V6 EcoDiesel or Silverado 1500 5.3L? There are quite a few Ford fans on the forum. I realize neither has the hauling or towing capacity of the Fords, but the both seem adequate power-wise to handle a 5/0TA and both seem to offer smoother rides.
Thanks,
David

Given enough payload there's no reason you can't use either. As a current F150 owner and past GMC Sierra owner, I agree the ride is nicer in the GM products. I had transmission overheat issues on the GMC towing uphill, but things have changed a lot since 2004.

There was a 5.0 TA owner in Florida towing with the Dodge small diesel, but has since sold the unit.

I looked at the EcoDiesel before I replaced my 2012 F150 with a 2015 F150. The bed is 5" higher from the ground than the F150, and you almost need an elevator to get onto the the F150's bed as it is. I did not want to alter the 5.0TA's suspension in order to be able to tow "level." That was the most important reason. A second and less critical reason I didn't buy one is because I absolutely hate the smell of diesel exhaust and I dislike the loud "chugging" sound of diesels.

I drove one too. I liked the drive, and all reports are it has enough power. The payload capacity was a bit questionable. The interior looked like it was 10 years old, and in major need of upgrading. I love diesel power, having had a larger one for 25 years now, and the emissions are so tight on them, you cannot hardly tell by the smell they are diesel. Noise wise, my 6.7 litre Powerstroke diesel is probably quieter, especially at an idle, than the small Dodge.

There are Dodge guys and Chevy guys and Ford guys. Most of what makes them one or the other is aesthetics, and personal taste. The Ram would do a fine job towing the 5er, but for me, it's not a Ford.

Hi: cpaharley2008... I think that's where D&R in MA. got their 5.0TA from. I would seriously have looked at a 2016 GMC Canyon crew cab diesel... but that was before we spent the kids inheritance on the kitchen!!! Need the Frontier to tow another 10 yrs. at least. Alf

I tow our 5TA WITH A CHEV SILVERADO 5.3 engine, 6'-6" box. I tow it from Nova Scotia to Florida and back every year and have towed it from British Columbia through the Rockies back to Halifax, Nova Scotia with absolutely no problem. Lots of power we have the tow package , I barely know it's there . Love towing with this truck.
