Towing a 5 with a Chev Silverado 5.3

Is there anyone out there currently towing a 5 with the above vehicle, if so how well does it tow?

Is there anyone out there with the above vehicle thinking of getting the 5TA? If so, what are your thoughts on the towing?

Anyone with the above tow vehicle have any thoughts in regards to how it would handle the 5TA?

Thanks,

Thinking about it, currently have a 19 and you don't even know its behind you most of the time.
I average about 16 MPG IMP. towing while traveling at 110, great truck.

I would echo Doug's post. We pulled our 19 with a Traverse without any issues. Our Silverado is more than enough for a 19, 21, or the TA. Only issue seems to be the short box on the crew cab models. There are several threads on the forum discussing hitches and box length. Consensus seems to be no big deal. Just make sure the GVWR is adequate...and there are many threads explaining this also. I would also want the tow package on the truck.

My previous truck was a GMC with the 5.3, I'd have no doubts about using it to pull the 5TA, with the right hitch. I had the 4 speed, the newer 6 speeds would fair even better. You've got at least 1500 lb payload depending on the model, just stay a healthy margin under that. SOmeone should be posting a real life pin weight for the 5TA soon.

Hi: Chapitre... Here's a pic. or two of our first truck/trailer combo. The GMC was a short box with the 4.3V6 and tow haul trans. No power house but it worked for us for three years. Alf

Hi: Chapitre... In a word "Slower". The Frontier has more torque and more speed out of a 4Ltr. V6. A better match for the 5.0 IMHO. I just hope the Frontier pairs up with the 5.0TA as well. Alf

I am researching my tow vehicle for the new 5.0Ta. The pin weight is the challenge. One of the new ones recently posted a 600 pound pin weight. So I have been doing the math of all the things we pack IN the truck. Seems my challenge is not the towing, or how much the truck can PULL. But the weight the truck can handle itself, payload. Everyone brings different things and people, I look forward to what other's say

Hi: Don W... In our 5.0 we had an 8" thick 60X80 queen memory foam mattress. Added to that we used a tarp on the bed with our zero gravs. on top. Add a few bag chairs beside the mattress and all your clothes in the overheads plus food and drinks in the pantry and you have a heavy pin weight. I'm hoping the new 5.0TA with a new loading pattern and tandems won't have as much of a load in the truck bed. Fingers crossed!!!
It's all in the way you pack your bags. Alf
