Vehicles for Towing

I just purchased my first TT weighing in at 6800 lbs. (2011 Fourwinds 311 BHDS).
I don't believe my Ford Expedition can safely pull it. Looking for suggestions on an SUV type that would do the job.

Re: Vehicles for Towing

Hi: tracyschle... Sorry I can't help with info. Most of us here are towing light weight fiberglass TT's 3000 lb. or less, so a tow cap. of 5000 lbs or less, and a V6 will do!!! Alf

Re: Vehicles for Towing

Yep.. this probably isn't the best site..having said that. My guess is that the least expensive suv that could handle it would be a Dodge Durango..

6800 lbs... woo. I bet you can research tow capacities of SUVs online. Keep in mind you'll want a fat safety margin (say, 1500 lbs. minimum?). I bet you'll need something like a Suburban or an Excursion, maybe a Tahoe or Expedition will do.

The towing capacity of the Ford Expedition is about 9200 pounds according to
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-p...ity-chart9.htm

The capacity might be different for different years.

It appears to me your Expedition should be able to safely pull it.

Re: Vehicles for Towing

An early model AG Hummer would probably pull this rig

Re: Vehicles for Towing

Tracy, you may find the answers you seek at the Open Road forums at RV.net. Click here: http://www.rv.net/forum/. I see there's a Tow Vehicles forum about 3/4 down the page under Technical Resources. You'll need to register to post, but it's free and easy.

Best of luck.
