Weigh your trailer at the Oregon Gathering in Bandon

Hi All,
Fredrick Simpson and friends are offering to weigh your trailer at the Oregon Gathering in Bandon again this year.
They have the process down to where it adds very little time to check-in and I believe gives you an opportunity to get accurate data on your rig as you use it.

If you agree, Fredrick shares the data on Fiberglass RV so newcomers and people wanting to trade up (like us) can make more informed choices. He won't include your data without permission.

Fredrick has a poll over on Fiberglass RV to gauge the interest:
http://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/in...howtopic=40409

We'll be weighing our 17B and I see there is one 19' double axle so far.

Please consider participating and add to the knowledge/data base.

The Process:
Last Year's Weigh-In went very smoothly. I would like to do it the same way:
1. When you arrive, do NOT turn right into the Campground
2. Instead, Proceed ahead to the Beach Restroom Lot
3. Weigh your Trailer's Axles while hitched (but with any WDH bars removed)
4. Now go back, check in, and proceed to your campsite
5. Unhitch and get level. DO NOT deploy stabilizer jacks
6. I will come to your site and weigh your Trailer's Tongue
7. After I'm done, you can set up your campsite

This worked so well because Eric B. and Robert Z. helped with the weighing at the beach while I drove from campsite to campsite weighing tongues.

Eric, will you be available to help this year?
Would anyone else like to help? It's easy!

If anyone would like to weigh your Tow Vehicle, or compare with WDH to without WDH, or see how bicycles on the back affect hitch weight, just ask!
I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the Rallies/Gathering forum....
Thanks!

Hi: paulw...It's really good to have your trailer weighed as long as Frederick doesn't put you on a "Slim Fast" diet. Alf

I've attached a summary of the Escape trailer weights from the Bandon Oregon Gathering "Weigh In".

There are more details in Frederick's post on FiberglassRV starting on post six...

Interesting stuff....

Re: Weigh your trailer at the Oregon Gathering in Bandon

That is indeed interesting "stuff". Owning an Escape 19 and not being at Bandon I was wondering if you had an explanation for the differences in total weight. Of particular interest is the final unit that deviates so much from the others. I could apply mean, medium, mode and standard deviation but not sure the sample size is enough. Passengers not included for example?

Loaded but without water I come closest to that final unit with my total weight at 3,370. Maybe I should be like Alf and pack more along to get my weight up. Or, cut back on the Slim Fast.

Re: Weigh your trailer at the Oregon Gathering in Bandon

Total weight 3,370! Wow! Here's the weight for my 19 footer from Bandon:

Left front axle 1,340, rear axle 500
Right front 1,180, rear axle 420
Total axle weight 3,440 (with 2 bikes on the rear)
Tongue is 320 with 2 bikes on the rear of the Escape
With the bikes removed, the tongue weight moves up to 360
Total weight is "3,800" and 3,760 with the bikes. The "3,800" figure is a little misleading as the axle weight was not made with the bikes removed.

The fresh water and gray water tanks were empty. The black water tank had about 1 to 2 gallons in it. Some clothes, food and beer for the exchange. The two LP tanks were about 90% filled.

Re: Weigh your trailer at the Oregon Gathering in Bandon

We had the heavy 5.0 at 3900 lbs! On the way down I stopped at two farm scales and weighed the axle. One was 3050, one was 3300. Fredericks scales weighed them at 3220. Wow. When we got home I unloaded everything including all water and propane tanks and headed to the local pay scale to see what the dry weight is. Total dry weight is 2880. This unit has dual batteries and A/C unit. Somewhere there is an extra 60ish pounds in the unit. What baffles me a bit is that we had 1020 lbs of cargo. I guess it makes sense when you stop at Costco and you are grunting while handing through the door flat after flat of bottled water and whatever other family sized meals we could stuff in the freezer and fridge for the gathering. Amazing how quick things add up.

Re: Weigh your trailer at the Oregon Gathering in Bandon

The only thing I have weighed on our 19 is the tongue weight for safety reasons, and I need to do that again. The last trip out we went through the trailer and removed all the stuff that we really haven't used, or don't need. I bet we pulled out 200 pounds or so. I still don't carry too much, and have a fair bit of storage space left.

Re: Weigh your trailer at the Oregon Gathering in Bandon

reace,

What is the GVW of the trailer? I know the axle is 3500Lb but that is not normally the gross vehicle weight.
