I don't doubt that, but the 2002 Vortec 4300 (RPO: LV3) was a "Generation I" (first generation) design, so old that is a "Chevrolet small-block" rather than a "GM small-block", and putting out 200 horsepower (in a Sierra). The current 4.3L V6 in Chevrolet and GMC trucks is the EcoTec3 4.3 (RPO: LV3), a Generation V (fifth generation) design, putting out 295 horsepower.

I have a pretty low opinion of the 1981 Chevy pickup that we had, but I realize that it has essentially nothing in common with a current GM pickup.

The 4.3 L engine is the least powerful choice for a current Silverado/Sierra, and unlikely to be chosen by anyone for towing.

BTW... how's your new tug tow? Alf

Hi Alf
I miss the Frontier, but the F150 is good. I was getting 19/14 from the Frontier, 23/16 from the F150. I cannot tell lot of difference on the road except this combo turns sharper than the other. The Ford has a smaller turn radius. That was nice for the U-turns I had to make last trip. Don't imagine why I would want to, but I think I can back into a 90 degree angle.
Next trip to Denton (NC) I have to back into a tricky spot. I will see how this setup compares to the other.
Dick

Oops ... I was editing and had not inserted the correct Regular Production Option code for the old 4.3 L V6. The correct RPO for this engine was LU3.

One thing to carefully consider in any truck you choose is the payload. That is a critical spec that is often overlooked, and a very important factor when towing a 5th wheel, and whether or not you need 4x4 as that will reduce your payload. Had I studied that factor better before buying my RAM, i would not have the 4x4, only have used it a few times...

I would like to hear opinions on Toyota's full size truck, the Tundra. How does it perform with both the 5.0 TA and the 21 foot escape?
