The Tacoma has a composite bed rather than steel, which makes the 5th wheel hitch installation more problematic, although I'm sure not impossible.

I don't know what "special modifications" are required - every fifth-wheel mounting in a pickup truck requires brackets under the box which connect the frame to the mounting rails or pads, whether the box is steel, composite, or aluminum.

Is the issue just that there isn't a bracket kit for the Tacoma for the brand of hitch you want? If the common across-the-bed rails are acceptable, those are universal so the bracket kit doesn't need to be the same brand as the hitch.

There may not be any brands of brackets available for the Tacoma. This has nothing to do with the composite box; there are pickups with steel boxes - even full-size pickups - for which most hitch manufacturers do not offer brackets.
