BC Provincial Parks

I was wondering if anyone knows if there are a percentage of campsites in BC Provincial Campgrounds that are available on a first come basis? If the reservation service indicates a campground is fully booked does that mean it is 100% booked or is some percentage available still on a walk up basis. We are wanting to go to Vancouver Island this summer but it is clearly too late for reservations and would like to try just a bit of wandering around without a reservation plan. Anyone know about this?

I know most of the larger ones keep a few on a first come basis. If you phone them they can probably tell you about specific locations and the policy there.

If you Google BC Parks or Camps or HelloBC, you can click on the campground and get all the information you need.

The percentage varies depending on the campground. Some are 100% reservable, while others will will have a limited number designated as first come first serve sites. Gbaglo is correct that you can check the BC Parks to check for specific campgrounds. There is still a chance you can get a reservation if you keep checking the reservation system. It only costs $18 to cancel a reservation so it happens quite frequently. Cancelled sites become available at 7am the next day, so just check each morning. Within a couple weeks of your desired dates there is bound to be some movement!
