Bosque del Apache bird trip

Mike Lewis taught me something with his recent “Travel Diary” post. Instead of manually posting pictures and commentary of that big trip he made it into a PDF file and included a hot link to it.

Great idea. Had to try it. I learned that in Word you can build many pages of your story, doctor them and then save them as a PDF file. This eliminates manually inserting data that can get long winded and waste file space. Who knew?

I hope this works. Also hope my images don’t suffer too much from the compression.

Hot link to my Bosque story:

Nice eagle shot.

How's a hot link work?

Birds

Hi Myron
Nice report and great bird pictures. We were out one day a couple weeks ago as the snowy owls are down in our country at this time. Did not see one but saw about 45 Bald Eagles below the local lowhead dam. They feed on winterkilled gizzard shad. Numerous raptors on our loop out to Fort Wayne last week including one Northern Harrier, a couple kestrels and about 25 red tail hawks. Had a male sharp shinned hawk at the feeder last week, he bounced a junco off the window and it was over quickly.

Very nice, Myron! I've heard about that wildlife refuge but I haven't been there. It looked like a cold trip, though.

Your fridge was working fine on propane? At those temperatures who needs propane.

Sounds like a nice little excursion and I like the way you presented it.

Ah yes,the birds shall abide. Thanks for the nice responses. Man, what I wouldn't give for better raptor shots, Dave.

Very nice story, Myron. We met at the Buena Vista camp summer 2017. Make sure you share with your family and friends who are not Escape forum users, HaHa.

I like the blending of story elements: the birds as the main story, but also the behind the scenes of the tripod, the Walmart stay and indoor weather report. While you exist in the story as the voice, why not show yourself as well? When people look back at old photos, not only is the narrative interesting, but family and friends like to see the people they love as well.

For my photography, I now rarely take photos without a person in the shot. As I show my photos to others, they just sort of skim the beautiful sunset shots or majestic landscapes (any photo of the Grand Canyon pales in comparison to the real deal). But they dwell on the shots with people in them.

And your adventure inspires me to use my Escape 21 more often. There is no need for an elaborately planned event. Shut off the TV and leave!

Beautiful! Thanks for the trip report, it's on our bucket list. Loved the eagle shot, as one of our Audubon guides once said, 'you're either the predator or the prey, that's life'.
