Campgrounds in Salem Oregon

Looking ahead here - what's a good campground in Salem Oregon? Would be there in August.

Of course I found some using Google, but would like feedback from those that have actually camped at them.

Thanks!

Around Salem, nothing beats Silver Park Falls State Park. Reserve early!

Campgrounds in Salem Oregon

We stayed at Silver Falls SP. It was very lightly occupied because of the off season, and it rained quite a bit. Still, we were on a great trip, and we had a great time. I can imagine it's quite a different place in the summer.

At Silver Falls State Park, absolutely during the rainy season you'll want to be in B Loop. A Loop, may be closed, but even if it's not it's dark, dark, dark all day long. That can be wonderful if it's hot, not so good if it's cool and rainy.

Silver Falls is Oregon premier state park. LOTS of gorgeous water falls... and dogs are NOT allowed on the trails. If you have a dog, keep that in mind.

We stayed at Silver Falls last July for 2 nights. Just loved it there! Amazing waterfalls and trails. A real hidden gem. Highly recommend.
Will you have your new trailer then?

Nope, not by this August. Looking towards August 2017.

Thanks for the thumbs up on this campsite. I'll probably try it out before August 2017.

waterfall experience

Highly recommend Silver Falls State Park. The wonderful trail system, built by the CCC in the 1930's, includes two places where the trail goes behind a waterfall.

If you're interested in historic car tours... Marion County (Salem area) has many, many historic covered bridges. Pretty neat

Crud, forgot what forum I was on! I typically code my own smilies... they're different here than FiberglassRV. But, I fixed mine!

Dogs are allowed on some of the trails, but not the Canyon Waterfall trails. We've walked ours (on leash) along the Rim Trail.

Bold, not mine. This is from the park brochure: Silver Falls State Park

Waterfalls: Where else can you walk behind a waterfall? Check out the famous South Falls and see what a 177-foot curtain of water looks like from behind. It’s part of the Trail of Ten Falls, a spectacular, nationally recognized hiking trail that weaves through a dense forested landscape. The trail passes a series of breathtaking waterfalls along a rocky canyon, and descends to a winding creek at the forest floor. This 7.2 mile loop is considered to be a moderate hike, with an overall elevation change of 800 feet. Several connecting trails with separate access points make shorter routes. For everyone’s safety— absolutely no pets.

Yup, that's along the Ten Falls Trails where pets are banned. Pets allowed on some other routes - the State Park hiking map has those routes in their footnote box.

The PDF is too big to upload here.

Silver Falls looks beautiful!unfortunately it is completely booked the week we will be traveling back. Looks like we'll have to make a detour on our way up to Chilliwack to see it!
