Chewing Blackbones Campground near Glacier Park Montana

This campground is one of three owned by the Blackfeet Nation in Montana. It is a work in progress and a bit unorganized in places but friendly and has some great sites. If you can dry camp, the sites nearest St Mary's Lake are beautiful, with plenty of space. Birding bonus is hearing loons early in the mornings.
The full-service sites are in a field, so even though plenty of space they have neither shade or privacy.

The tribal staff is great--helpful and friendly. They have a partnership with Glacier National Park and often have evening programs. We heard one of the best storytellers I have seen for an evening of tribal stories and songs. I grew up camping and programs can be hit or miss--this one was a solid hit.

Campground is open June to October and is very close to both Glacier Nat Park in US and Waterton National Park in Canada. We missed the fires fortunately but definitely saw the haze and smoke from BC and Idaho fires on this 3-week trip through Montana and part of Alberta.

We were there in early August 2018 and I agree with the OP statements about the setting and helpfulness of staff. It should be noted that the bathrooms and especially the showers could not be any worse in terms of functionality and cleanliness. Unfortunately these things have not improved since I first visited in 2005.
