Crawfordsville, Indiana, KOA
After reading in another thread about the fires in Portland I feel a little ridiculous reporting about showers in Indiana, but here it is. If I don't do it now, I'll forget.
We stopped here last night at the KOA in Crawfordsville -- pretty place, sites reasonably placed and spotlessly clean and attractive bathrooms. BUT there is a powerful smell of something -- maybe sewer gas -- in the Women's Bathroom -- so strong that I opted to take a shower in the Escape instead -- very grateful for that option, and it is nice to do it in a place where we have full hookups so I didn't have to ration the water.
It might seem like I'm obsessed with showers, but after nearly three months on the road they seem to have taken on a new importance in my life.
We thought about staying here an extra day, but there are too many barking dogs. I do not understand how folks let their dogs bark on and on when they are right there. It's not a happy sound.

I don't understand it either Ruthe, but we see it alot. Dog yapping away while the owner is right there, oblivious.

Ruthe
You might consider posting reviews of campgrounds on RV Park Reviews - Trusted Reviews of Campgrounds & RV Parks if you don't already. It's a nice central place for people to check on campgrounds before stopping.

We have that next door at our house. Had to get one of those ultrasonic devices which does seem to shut down the barkers when deployed. Owners are not the kind you can approach safely which is part of the reason I'm sure we have the issue to begin with.
May have to get some of those devices to go with us in the trailer.

Ask and ye shall receive, Donna.
Here is an assortment, I have the birdhouse one, so they don't realize I'm blasting their dogs.

Thanks! I wonder if it would look weird if I walk around a campground with a birdhouse under my arm . I just get tired of setting off dog bark alarms just because I'm walking by a site.

We've used an ultrasonic device at our previous house because of a neighbor dog in close proximity to our bedroom, that liked to bark for hours in the early morning. The device seemed to work because the barking was lessened. They have a limited range however, maybe 50 feet, so I'm not sure how effective they'd be at a campground. Worth a shot I guess.

Donna, just put the birdhouse in your hat. It will fit right in!

If you can find one Ramsey electronics used to sell a device called the rat blaster. It is a horn tweeter mounted in a box with a 5 watt ultrasonic transmitter and had 3 frequencies that could be selected.
I have one and it really works. Let someone start allowing their dog to use the mailbox as a messaging post and the next time they will be either dragging or carrying a squirming pooch through the very directional blast of sound. If you wave it towards a tree all the birds blast off and squirrels will flee from it. And my daughter came over one day and asked us, what is that horrible sound I am hearing.
So she became known as lassie
The company stopped selling their kits in 2016 but hamfest and such may still have them.

As the owner of a Chihuahua, I must extend my sympathies to all visitors to any campground during the time we visit. Annoying little creatures they, with their high pitched bark and other peculiar and aggravating traits. But my wife loves them. That being said, I always find it a bit humorous to read the noises which make for unhappy camping:
1. Generators are the top of the list. My apologies to anyone in a state park we may visit in the future-yes, we too, in addition to owning a barky dog, also own a Yamaha 2000i generator.
2. Then there are the previously mentioned dogs.
3. Add in the children's noises-did I mention we have 2 kids? Oh dear! My apologies to anyone in our campground that wanted to get away from kids.
4. Then there are the loud neighbors who you can hear through the walls of your trailer-ummm...I'm sensing a repeating pattern here-my wife stands behind the trailer and gives me directions on backing into the site, in such a volume as can be heard over the truck's AC set on high, and I yell "what?! I can't hear you! Could you move a bit closer?!" Happens until one of us gets fed up and we get within inches of each other. Funny thing is, the volume never seems to decrease.
5. Then there is the loud music people play-wait! Now that is flat out annoying and something I find truly unacceptable!!
It's a wonder anyone can actually enjoy camping with people like us around!

I can see the humor in all your comments, but I must ask, what does that have to do with a dog that barks incessantly? We're not talking about the occasional yap. My Coco does the occasional yap. That means she's a dog.

Well, there was a bit of humor and poetic license taken for sure. Just my way of pointing out that almost anything can be a irritant to a person when camping at a campground. I even forgot to include campfire smoke. It's a calculated risk a person takes when camping anywhere, there will be annoyances.
But to my original point we do have a yappy dog, and even when attempt to stifle him, he does bark, like your Coco. And not at all the right times. I'm sure there are some who could find that annoying, and so I was apologizing to anyone reading, albeit a little tongue in check.

I am reminded of Samuel Clement's famous reply to the visitor who asked him why he liked cats so much.

There are annoyances and there are annoyances. The dog that started this conversation quieted down immediately when the owners took him/her inside their trailer. I don't understand why they waited so long. When we were in the Tetons there were 14 of us and there were times when we were the louds in the c ampground. However, we were quiet by 9 P.M.., didn't cut through people's campsites and the kids didn't run around screaming for no reason -- Except for the two year old -- who sometimes could NOT be quieted --
As for campfires -- we go through periods when we have them and periods when we don't. I understaand that it is part of the camping experience but when it's 90 degrees at night and the smoke hangs in the air -- or when people burn wet wood -- I'm real glad we can go inside the trailer.
