Daingerfield State Park, NE Texas

One of the more popular camping destinations in northeast Texas, Daingerfield State Park, sustained a disastrous lightning strike yesterday that took out the all fresh water and sanitation equipment. The park is now closed to camping indefinitely, existing campers had to leave (even dry camping) and the day use area (swim beach and picnicking) has been provided with port-a-potties and hand washing stations. Park closes to all day use traffic at 6 PM.

Updates on the website as they become available.

Daingerfield SP is really nice, we've camped there. Many of the campsites are nestled in the southern pines, and the fishing and kayaking is great. Too bad about the lightning damage.

That looks like a very nice state park. You get a full hook-up site for $20/night. I pay $20 at state parks in NJ for a simple plot of dirt and no utilities.

It is a nice park. I've been there, but only for an overnight stop on the way home. I doubt if there are many boondockers there now, because this park is hot in the summer.

Apparently no boondocking right now either. No water system so no camping of any kind - just day use.

The part basically has been open since yesterday (Thursday 13 July). For the past few days, the park website has stated, "Park repairs from lightning damage have almost been completed. The park will be reopen campsites and cabins tomorrow (Thurs,. July 13, 2017) at 8 a.m. The restroom in the Big Pine is still closed and guests will need to use the restroom in the Dogwood loop." I called and learned all is good, except the Big Pine restroom is without hot water.

Well, that was a quick turnaround. Good thing - Daingerfield is a very nice park.
