Deception Pass Camping July 2014
We camped for two nights with our son and his family at Deception Pass. The weather forecast called for hot weather, but in the woods of the Lower Loop it was cool, and there are generously sized campsites. There was no problem getting a campsite mid-week. Lots to see in the area -- some photos here:

I've heard the State Park there is beautiful. It's on our list (well at least in the top 50 on our list -- we are going to be busy!) of places to see. Nice shots.

DP is one of the state's very best parks IMO. Looks like Brian's family gets an A+ in memory-making.

Here is a link: Deception Pass State Park | Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission
Deception Pass State Park is at the northern end of Whidbey Island, which is in Washington State just south of Anacortes and west of Mount Vernon.

DP is also just a short distance from Sumas. Many (us included) use this for the first night or two as you organize your trailer after picking up. This was our first time ever with an rv and we got to try out many of the challenges of backing in, leveling, hooking up, etc. Price was a little high at $38 per night, but was worth it for a short tow the first day. Also close to a supermarket to get supplies.

First. Very nice photographs, Brian.
We're picking up our 19 on 8/19. I was planning on camping at Deception Pass but read that there is an Air Force base near by and fighter jets buzz the park. Is that a reason not to go there? Are the flights so frequent they're troublesome?

When we were there we could hear the flights during the day time, but they were not bothersome. At night we slept very well.

The planes are part of the atmosphere---you can hear them but tune them out--the park is so darned popular for so many years---the planes don't seem to bother people.
Great little trails and the walkover the bridge is worth more than a few pictures..We have seen seals chasing salmon under the bridge near the edges..

Correct!
NAS Whidbey Island is the premier naval aviation installation in the Pacific Northwest and home of all Navy tactical electronic attack squadrons flying the EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler.
Adding to the depth and capability of the air station are four P-3 Orion Maritime Patrol squadrons and two Fleet Reconnaissance squadrons flying the EP-3E Aries. Naval Air Station Whidbey Island

Return to Deception Pass
We returned to Deception Pass with the same site as last year. The photo shows the awning of our trailer on the right and the tents used by our son and his wife and three children. Site #152 was large enough to accommodate everyone with adequate room. There are lots of trees and the site is not serviced, but our solar panel supplied plenty of power for the water pump, lights and furnace (we had some cool days). An alternative to a larger trailer?

We spent most of our time outside with our grandchildren, which I think counts as "more".

Great looking family spot, Brian. Other nice photos too.
I recognize that blue tent. An MEC Wnderer 2, which I have owned for many years, and spent a couple hundred nights sleeping in, though mostly in the backcountry.

Nice photos of the Deception Pass Bridge. Once I tried to take some 30-second time exposures of the bridge in early evening. They came out blurred. I was puzzled at first, then realized that the bridge flexes quite a bit when vehicles drive over it. Something to think about.

Mike
The photo I took of the bridge last year was this one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/brian_...ll/14613715446
Exposure was 1/20 second, and it looks pretty sharp, so the problem might have been the 30 second time exposure you used and a long lens. You really need a rigid tripod and no vibration of the lens (let alone the bridge) for that type of shot! (I have been trying to justify a better tripod to overcome vibration problems, but can't swing it).
