Fort Stevens State Park, near Astoria Oregon

We are taking our Escape 19, "Tug on Wheels" on its second road trip and to the Oregon Coast. Fort Stevens State Park is a great place with good sites, today's rate for a site with power and water is $18 a night, nine miles of bike trails and with an interesting historical story of Lewis and Clark, civil war and world war 2 era forts, the Columbia River and is on the Ocean.

Costco, Home Depot and a large department store (Fred Meyers) is within 10 minutes. You have to visit Fort Clatsop National Historical Park that is 15 minutes away for a great experience on the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

We named our Escape 19 "Tug on Wheels" because it is very much like our other vehicle for adventures, a Ranger 25 Tug: well made, quality work, and it takes you to places for fun and adventure.

Just watch yourselves going down the dunes to the beach--they may not be much but Doug slipped and really turned his ankle the last time we were ther---very pleased to have all the stores nearby for a good ankle bandage/brace!!!!

Re: Fort Stevens, Beverly Beach (Newport), Washburn State Park (Florence)

A week has gone by on this great trip and we can recommend two other Oregon State Parks: Beverly Beach State Park is north of Newport. It is on the east side of Highway 101 but has a nice trail to the huge beach. Lots of great sites that are situated in the tall trees with no highway noise. Newport is a great place to sightsee. Park your Escape and go north to Depoe Bay and drive south to Newport. In Newport you have to see Yaquina Head Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area; the $7 day use fee is worth it. Some of the best tide pools in the area, first class visitor center center and a lighthouse to tour. Also in Newport are an incredible aquarium and an outstanding marine science center. Do not miss the original Mo's Clam Chowder house.

Washburn State Park is 14 miles north of Florence. Beautiful sites in the forest, easy 1/2 mile path to the beach plus an easy drive or a three mile hike to the nearby lighthouse. This lighthouse is unusual in the fact that the tour takes you inside to the rare Fresnel order one lens as it rotates.
