Indy 500 Camping at Indy KOA
Will be the second trip for us in our new 21'. But this will be my 31st Indy 500 race! First time camping anywhere near the track for the greatest spectacle in racing. Anyone else going? Anyone been to this campground before?

WE have stayed at the Terra Haute and Richmond KOA's bit not the track one. Sounds nice and convenient. I have been to several Daytona 500 races in the past, these races are quite a spectacle.

Jim,
I get 4 tickets per year, and the only constant is Brenda and Me. If you would like to go some year, Let me know. We could have a mini escape gathering for the race!

Wow, 31 Indy 500's, that's impressive. I've only watched on TV. But it's on my bucket list. I guess the crowds are not what they were in the past. Is it true that that there were just as many fans outside the track as inside back in the day totaling 350,000 I think i've seen RV's inside the oval, is camping permitted there or are they for the race teams ?

This Year Seating is sold out at approximately 250,000. General Admission which is infield or whereever you can stand, will probably total almost as much. Quite a site to see.
The main campers you see inside the track are for the teams with a few inside the oval I think, it is constantly changing, however there is camping inside the track compound, just not inside the oval. I attempted this year for a spot with power but could not get one.
My dad starting taking me when I was a kid, and I have only missed 1 race or this would be 32! I can't start my summer without going to that track, We have had 2 of those seats in our family for over 40 years.
I suggest the experience to everyone! It is nothing like you see on TV.

Exactly. I have not attended the Indy 500 race, but I saw an Indy car race at Pocono Speedway back in the 1980s. I was amazed at how much we could see from the stands; it's not at all what you think from watching a race on TV. It was a great experience.

It should be a great race this year -it's the 100th running. We have weekend tickets for the Indycar return to Road America and a campground reservation at a nearby State Forest campground. We've been to see them at the Milwaukee Mile twice and the Iowa Speedway three times - they are both great places as you can see the entire track. The speed of a modern Indycar and the skill of these drivers is amazing to see live.

Do you have to drink Bud Lime Light? or is that just NASCAR?

I certainly hope not. How some of my fellow Americans drink that nasty swill (or anything with the word 'Bud' in it) is beyond my comprehension.
And no, I won't be bringing any 'Bud' to the beer exchange in Osoyoos. Try to hide your disappointment.

Not near on the same level as the Indy 500 but I sure enjoyed the Vancouver one when we had it here--went with my BIL one year...

No, that's only for CRASHCAR, opps I mean NASCAR.
My dad, who knew old school Indy drivers, mechanics, and built at least one sprint car that I know of, used to say "If its got fenders, it ain't racing"
My very favorite change in recent decades to Indy (and F1) is the incredible positive change in the safety of the cars themselves, They both used to be quite brutal.

Love watching the F1 races. I was amazed how cool the teenager drove in Spain.

I've been able to watch Indy cars as they have come to my local track Sears Point for about 10 years now, they are screaming fast. But to see them at Indianapolis raceway at 200+ mph and nearly that through a corner, I can only imagine.
I like the idea of a Indy gathering and Texas to see F1.

I suspect that it would be okay to run a generator - maybe all day - in an infield campsite.

Got a spare $3300 lying around? If so you might be able to go around the Indy Speedway at 200 mph with Mario Andretti. http://http://www.forbes.com/sites/j.../#64643d197c98
I'm taking donations

200 or Bust [emoji12]. I love the line about how you would be going faster than any NASCAR driver has around the Speedway
