Re: Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin
My brother used this campground a great deal. It is run by tribal officers and I believe the manager used to be Tom Maulson, a well known tribal name. Not sure of the current management. Go to the tribal run fish hatchery across the street for some fresh caught trout, you catch it, they will clean it. They even provide the equipment.
This is my turf and I spend two weeks, starting this Sunday, in the area. I grew up in the area and have been returning for 35+ years. There are hundreds of campgrounds in the area, our favorite is three interconnected facilities in Northern Highland/American Legion State Forest called Crystal, Muskellenge and Firefly CG's. They center around three pristine spring fed lakes of the same names. A 30 mile paved bicycle trail winds through the campgrounds. It is a sun worshippers delight with wide sand beaches. Water levels are down in the area as they are suffering from a 8 year shortage of rain/snow.
Filled on weekends, non reservable seemed readily available in early and mid week. All camping is boondocking but to preserve the quality of water they have installed showers.
