Vivian & I spent 6 weeks in NL this year (2011). Though we have lived in PEI for the past 40 years, we are both Newfies. We fell back in love with our home province and bought a small cottage (in NL they call them cabins). Hope to spend 3-5 months a year (May - Sept) there as long as health allows. The 17B will be travelling to NL with us and we expect to do some camping in parts we have not yet explored.
Any Escapees and other fiberglass types are welcome to drop by for a stay. Lots of room for parking....100 ft from the beach (swim & fish). The location is Birchy Lake (between Deer Lake and Grand Falls). The lake is 18 miles long, along the Trans Canada. You will find us on the opposite side of the lake. When you turn off the TCH, drive to the end of the road (approx 5 km) look for PEI plates. It's a very good gravel road.
Out of curiousity, how much is the ferry trip to Port au Basque or St. John's ? Here in British Columbia, we once paid $975 to take the boat to (and back) the Queen Charlotte Islands (now, due to guilt, re-named "Haida Gwaii").
We would love to do the road trip but it will not happen this year - but one can dream

Our return fare from North Sydney to Port aux Basque (West coast of NL) 2 pass., mini van, Escape 17 and 2 berth room was under $800.00. Going over in a couple weeks with the Escape and it will cost $530.00 return. Check out the website www.marine-atlantic.ca
Expensive if you were doing weekend or short trips, but we expect to go for several months at a time.
