Palouse RV Park in Palouse, Washington
The small town of Palouse, Washington has its own RV park for those visiting this scenic area. There are ten sites, five of which are pull-thrus, and all have full hookups plus free wifi. The rate is $25 per night, which I think is pretty good for full hookups, or $150 per week (i.e. you get a free night).
This is not to be confused with Palouse Falls State Park, which is some distance away.

I'm going to have to remember that one Mike. Not too far off the beaten path we've taken on the way to Osoyoos.

Much to do in the town? Spots look nice for that rate.

There's not a lot to do in the town of Palouse itself; in fact many of the shops are open only Thursday - Sat/Sun. I stayed there as a base so I could tour and photograph the countryside.
I don't know the history of the retaining wall behind the RV park. Between it and the park are railroad tracks, but right now they are not in use. I don't know if they will be used again when some road construction in town is finished. Years ago there were competing railroads with lines through town; that's part of the story.
About 16 miles south of Palouse is Moscow, Idaho, and seven miles to the west of Moscow is Pullman, Washington. They both host their state's land-grant universities, so they are college towns seven miles apart. Both are about 30,000 population. The University of Idaho in Moscow has an arboretum / botanical garden, and Washington State U. in Pullman has a nice art museum, with an addition being constructed now. Both towns have cultural stuff you'd expect college towns to have.
But the draw for me was the region's hilly landscape. The wind-blown topsoil is about twelve feet thick in places, so farmers grow crops where I would never expect, being from flat Florida. The equipment they use is amazing, and extremely expensive as well (e.g. $400k for a tractor with treads to climb the hills).

Kate,
That wall is to keep those liberal West Coaster out or in place.

I love the Palouse and took an extended road trip through that area and parts north and west to the Cascades, including the Coulee Corridor, the Wallula Gap and surrounds, last year. The effects of the flooding of Glacial Lake Missoula are eye opening. Extremely interesting geology.

While not to be confused, it is well worth a trip to the state park (which has a few small dry camping locations with tables as well as a large parking lot that is used as overflow.) More photos from my last visit. I got lucky & stayed at the host site with full hookups, although I ended up acting as a host more than once over the 3 days I was there.

Yes, that is a Linhof Technika V that I still use on occasion. I'm down to my last box of Fuji Provia Quickloads, well-expired. i'll probably have to do some color correction after I have it developed. For some reason I derive great satisfaction from using that camera.
Regarding your 7x17-- the folks on largeformatphotography.info make an occasional group buy of cut sheet film from Ilford, I think, in case you didn't know.

Wow, great shot, Jon! So that's how you do it: very wide angle lens + neutral density filter (I'm guessing). I have neither at the moment for my digital camera. I did make a day trip over to the falls and was surprised at how strong it was, not what you'd expect given the dry terrain. I'll be in that area again in a few weeks and give it another try with the view camera.
BTW-- when you are the camp host, do you get to make up your own rules? I'll start now...

Yes. Like Glenn, I also noticed the guys working on their car the whole time we was there. But I missed the girl in the bikini, dang it.

I forgot-- Palouse has a printing museum. It's open only during midday on Saturdays. It has a Linotype machine, an offset printer, and a lot of other publishing equipment whose names I don't remember. A very knowledgeable docent gives a good tour of the place, demonstrating the equipment, which is kept in working order. (She didn't melt lead for the Linotype, though.) They even have an early version of the Compugraphics phototypesetter. I used a later version in grad school; it used 8-inch floppies to store data. It's the first time I've seen a Compugraphics typesetter since, oh, 1982.
Glenn, among others, might find this place interesting.
