Sunset Bay State Park - Coos Bay OR - Review

What a stellar place! A perfect location, dramatic views, hiking and beach access. We loved it. In fact we're hitting on the return trip. The grounds were very well kept.. I tell ya the Oregon Coast is just spectacular..

Hi Jeff-

Did you have to make advance reservations? I know a lot of the Oregon beach parks (like Bullard's) are very popular.

We were able to just show up and get a site.. I think the July 4th weekend, you'd probably need reservations..but we haven't had one yet and we're able to get nice sites. When we show up they usually have sites put aside for "walk-ups" and so far we been able to pick which one we wanted from the available ones. Like at Sunset Bay had 5 open sites when we pulled in @ 3:30pm and this is pretty close to "The Big Weekend".. of course we might just be lucky

We love Sunset Bay State Park! Especially like to camp there over Thanksgiving, then go down the road 3 miles to Shore Acres State Park to see the opening of the Holiday Lights display.

We're going to try to stay there a couple of nights on the return trip as it really was beautiful..
