Sunset Camping Guide

Sunset is celebrating "The Great Outdoors" in this month's newsletter Camping Guide - Sunset. There are some interesting articles, especially the ones concerning "best campsites".

There's also a photo of a trailer at a campsite in Morro Bay which begs the question ... how did they get that thing unhitched from the tow?

I quit buying Sunset magazine many years ago. Quit buying fly fishing magazines and car magazines and cancelled my subscription to the newspaper I worked for.
Ten Best campsites or trailers or bicycles, or surf boards, or ice chests, all probably have ads in the mag.

Maybe it's a pull through and we just can't see the rest of the site in the picture?

That's what I first thought but then I blew up the photo it looks like there's a berm in front. I'm thinking someone got carried away with PhotoShop which is kind of a shame since there are so many fabulous "real" photos out there -- especially of Escapes.

Perhaps JaneM will comment, but Los Osos is next door to Morro Bay and this doesn't look like anything in the area. MB State Park isn't waterfront, and Morro Strand doesnt look like that either.

You likely don't get to see the TV ads promoting California. Skinny guy in board shorts, carrying a surf board, runs past front of van toward the water, which is flat as a salt lake.

Ain't advertising wonderful! We did get to see the TV ads of Governor Schwarzenegger promoting California, but then he had that little peccadillo...

The photo was likely "staged" for the magazine. They probably used a hitch wheel or even one of those trailer caddy devices to turn the trailer around. A bit of raking of the site to eliminate wheel tracks, and strategic placement of coolers, bicycle, dude with surfboard, etc., and they have a nice photo op.

I thought Cali beaches were more crowded than that.

This is the one that seems to be running all the time lately: -- probably more in CA than anywhere else in the country.

Looks like the Crystal Cove State Park campground near Laguna Beach, CA.

If it is campsite #60, there would be room to pull it in with a vehicle and get it out of the picture.

California has a lot of open areas and beach areas which are fairly remote, unlike the "BabeWatch" shows. Mendocino, Bodega Bay, Morro Bay and the far northern pacific region near Eureka are some of our favorite places where we benefit from the serene outdoors and where we cool off from the hot Central California summers.

The spill is way south of those aforementioned locations.

The oil spill is about 20-25 miles west (north on US-101, the coastline at the Santa Barbara Channel runs W-E) of Santa Barbara.
It's right about where two campgrounds are along the coast, both of which are now closed. (Refugio State Beach, El Capitan State Beach).

What a tragic mess (again). Yes, the spill is about 170 miles away from Laguna Beach.
